Until some TV series I watched as a kid in the 90’s (or even the movie Chef) I had never actually made a grilled cheese any other way than this. (It’s called a Toastie and maybe does not have a place in this sub, but I think it does.)
White bread (seeded this time) buttered on the outside, grated cheddar in the middle and then clamped together in a toastie maker (kinda like a panini press or waffle maker in case you never saw them.)

Yeah, mine was early 90’s. A slice of american cheese and a couple slices of Carl Budding processed meats, felt like a king.

Love a toastie! My uncle had a “sandwich press” that you clamped together and toasted in the fireplace (or over the campfire if camping) like your device. It was vintage even back then, and that’s been a loooonngg time ago! Made yummy grilled cheese. And you got to play with fire! 🔥
