Hello good people of Reddit. I have three boxes of Riedel wine glasses left over from a wedding, but was recently told they were inauthentic because there was no engraving on the base. Is that true? I have no reason to believe they are fake, so I was a little taken aback. Thanks all!

Never seen a Riedel glass without the laser marking before..
Also they’re super thick
🤢 bulbous stem – sorry, think they sent you the wrong set
looks fake..
Y’all are quick. Thanks for the quick response. To the trash bin they go! (Just kidding, but I’ll probably donate them sans the box because I don’t want people profiting off fake or mislabeled glasses).
Not even fake just not reidel at all
I sell Riedel and can say those are definitely not Riedel
I will say a lot of event spaces/venues use whatever boxes for glassware when transporting. If they told you they were Riedel, I’d be pissed. But if they didn’t say anything about the specific wine glasses, then I’d leave it be.
I have some plastic wine glasses I keep in a wine/picnic backpack for poolside or wine hiking. These look a lot like those. They come in handy…but mostly because they don’t break when dropped. 😁
Even if they *were* real Riedel, the only thing those look good for is getting stomped on at a wedding
They’re not fake Riedel glasses – much in the way that a Renault parked in front of a Ferrari dealership isn’t a fake Ferrari. They are simply unrelated random glasses in a cardboard box that was previously used to ship Riedel glasses.
Those are not Riedel… those are Libbey.
Even the thicker line has laserd Riedel logo
[A close friend is a GM for a restaurant and has several cases for his personal use, they have the etching at the bottom.](https://www.riedel.com/en-us/collections/riedel-restaurant)
I don’t even think they make a glass shape like that if you learn a bit about how and why they’re in the business – it’s about how the wine hits your tongue/palette. These would just be bleh. No direction, nothing. And no inscription. You got hosed.
Not Riedel… That’s a real box for wholesale on premise Riedel but those are not Riedel glasses. Ouverture 480/0 is a Red glass. 7 3/8” height with 12 3/8 oz volume. Riedel always has the brand etching on the foot. This glass is the wrong shape and the lip of this glass does not appear to be crystal. Source: I sell Riedel.
They aren’t necessarily fake, they are just 100% not Reidels
Looks like the glasses from ikea
These are the venue’s glasses they put in Riedel boxes, and they kept the Riedels.for reference, [these](https://www.ascotwholesale.co.uk/product/riedel-ouverture-crystal-red-wine-glass-12-25oz/?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22047922456&gclid=CjwKCAjw7fzDBhA7EiwAOqJkhwT-ZSVRhYlVHZFHD-WTAGMHjhnh6ykhvzGkmPhZv7rKW-_d3oZ4RhoCB2EQAvD_BwE) are the Riedel Overture red wine glasses.
Not riedel glasses but yes box
Definitely not Riedel
I’ve worked so many places that reused these boxes for unrelated glasses. Did someone sell this on ebay or something? I can’t imagine getting scammed on something like this.
These are not the overture glasses, i’m sorry you were mislead like this .
This is how all the variations look ;

That ain’t crystal. Sorry OP!
Yes
Having broken many Riedel glad working in the industry, these indeed do not look like Riedels
Those are definitely not riedel – I mean just look at Ouverature 0480 00 glassware on their website.
Man, these would be perfect for a nice glass of Woodbridge Cab that’s been open for 2 weeks
They don’t look like Reidel at all lol
I’ve never seen a clumsy Reidel glass like that. They are usually super thin glass and the name IS etched on the rondel base.
