Today, I’m creating the perfect fast food fried chicken sandwich. I’m taking the best components of three of the most popular sandwiches, combining them to create one ultimate fast food fried chicken sandwich. And I’m going to show you how to make it right at home. But before we do that, we need to try the three most popular fast food sandwiches to determine which components of each one I want to use. And we’re starting with Raisin Canes. Coming in at number three on the list, the Raisin Canes chicken sandwich is almost $9 and includes three chicken tenders instead of a patty, which I don’t love. Cane sauce, a poorly toasted bun, and a piece of lettuce. It tasted okay, but the shining star is definitely the cane sauce, which is delicious. For my first time trying Raisin Canes, I’m a little underwhelmed. I’m not going to lie. For sandwich number one, I think I have what I need. Onto the next. Coming in at number two on the list and our second fried chicken sandwich is the Popeye’s fried chicken sandwich. Does anybody else remember that weird fever dream where people were like literally dying to get this sandwich? Because I do. Weird times. I’ve also never tried this one, so let’s do it. At just over $5, this is the sandwich that I was the most excited to try. But with only fried chicken, a bun, pickles, and mayo, I was worried about how it would taste. But it did not disappoint. This might be the best fast food chicken sandwich I’ve ever had. The chicken was juicy, crunchy, and full of flavor. I have what I need. Onto the next. And coming in at number one on the list, our third and final fried chicken sandwich is the Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich. The list that I found has the regular Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich listed instead of the spicy, which I would prefer. And at just over $5, this sandwich has only pickles, a beautifully toasted bun, and chicken. It doesn’t include sauce, so that’s how I tried it. The chicken was really dry and didn’t have much flavor, but the pickles and bun were pretty tasty. I expected better. Chick-fil-A, you let me down. Not the best Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich I’ve ever had, but I definitely think that I have what I need to make the perfect fast food fried chicken sandwich. And before we make that sandwich, please be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel. Because these sandwiches are so simple, it was kind of hard to determine which components I wanted to use for the perfect fast food fried chicken sandwich. But for this sandwich, I decided to go with Popeye’s chicken because it was by far the best. the raisin cane sauce because it’s iconic and delicious and the bio bun and the garlic MSG dill pickles from Chick-fil-A. For the Popeye’s chicken, start by marinating a chicken thigh in 1 cup of buttermilk, 1 tbsp of salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cayenne, and a pinch of MSG. Cover and set in the fridge for at least 2 hours, but ideally overnight. For the Chick-fil-A garlic, and MSG dill pickles, cut one English cucumber into coins. Add these to a sterilized 1 quart glass jar. In a medium saucepan, add 1 and 1/2 cups of vinegar, 3/4 of a cup of water, 1 tbsp of kosher salt and sugar, and a pinch of MSG. And bring this to a boil. Once it just begins to boil, remove it from the heat and pour it over the cucumbers. Allow this to sit for a couple of minutes, and then add some crushed garlic cloves, sprigs of dill, and black peppercorns. And let these sit at room temperature until they’re cooled. You can use these on the sandwich after they cool, but they’re even better the next day. Cover and store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Raisin cane sauce is really easy to make. It’s 1 cup of mayo, half a cup of ketchup, 1 tbsp of worsture, however you say it, two cloves of freshly grated garlic, and salt and black pepper to taste. That’s it. You can store this in the fridge for up to a week. When you’re ready to fry the chicken, fill a deep pot or a fryer about a third to half of the way full with a neutral cooking oil. I’m using peanut oil, and preheat to 350° Fahrenheit. While that preheats, combine 1 cup of flour, a half a cup of cornstarch, and all of the same seasonings from the marinade in a mixing bowl. Remove your chicken from the fridge and add a few tablespoons of the marinade to the flour and mix. Keeping one wet hand and one dry hand, remove your chicken from the marinade. Shake off any excess and then drop it into the dredge, pressing and squeezing the chicken to fully coat in the flour. Repeat that process one more time before frying. When the oil is preheated, slowly lower in your chicken away from you and fry for 6 to 8 minutes or until the chicken is golden brown and reaches an internal temperature of 165° FHE. Fry in batches if you have to, and do not overcrowd your pot. This can cause a grease fire and burn your house down. When it’s done, set your fried chicken on a wire rack and immediately season with the same seasonings as before. And while your chicken cools, toast your bio bun in a pan over medium low heat in butter until it’s golden brown and crispy. Now it’s time to build the perfect fast food chicken sandwich. Start with the bottom toasted bun, some raisin cane sauce, those delicious Chick-fil-A garlic and MSG dill pickles, the Popeye’s fried chicken patty, more raisin cane sauce, and your top toasted bun. And just look at how beautiful she is. And that is the perfect fast food fried chicken sandwich. It looks really good. Let’s taste it. Mhm. Wow. I’m not just saying this. That’s one of the best fried chicken sandwiches that I’ve ever made. And it’s so simple. It literally needs nothing else. It’s four components. Toasted bun, homemade pickles, fried chicken, and sauce. Obviously, it’s going to be better than fast food because it’s made at home. But combining all of the best components of three of the most popular fast food chicken sandwiches was 100,000% worth it. You have to try this. Cheers.
