  1. Ata Rangi is probably best known for Pinot Noir but they’re classy operators all round.

This has vibrant pear and lychee on the nose with a touch of ginger and a tantalizing floral note. Citrus, more ginger spiciness, and a super long finish. The texture is lovely – great acidity and liveliness in the mouth. The label claims “minerality” but as ever I have no idea what that means.

Matched with “tandoori” chicken skewers and delayed footage of Mt Ventoux in the Tour de France.

What was intensity like? I usually find Pinot Gris weak to match with real food, so I have always preferred to pair with light snacks.
