On its own, an Italian restaurant and cafe concept is nothing new in New Jersey. But what sets Piccola Caffetteria in West New York apart isn’t just their selection of coffee and gourmet food; It’s the magic that happens when cultures mix and neighbors collaborate.
At Piccola Caffetteria, guests enjoy Sicilian-inspired cuisine that’s made with heart. “Everything is simple, high quality, and thoughtfully prepared,” says Renee Oliveira, co-owner of the restaurant and cafe. Signature menu items include pressed paninis, pastas, house-made desserts, pinsas, Mediterranean salads, and espresso drinks.

A Taste of Sicily
At the moment, their Rigatoni Vulcano is an early standout. They prepare the dish with garlic, cherry tomatoes, eggplant, peperoncino, basil, parmigiano reggiano, and pine nuts. Another popular option is their sun-dried tomato panini press sandwich with dry-aged prosciutto. These dishes also happen to be Renee’s favorites as well. “They’re rich, flavorful, not heavy and pure comfort food,” she says.
As for the drink menu, Piccola Caffetteria offers iced lattes, cold brew, and flavored espressos. Current fan-favorite iced lattes include pistachio, caramel, and crème brûlée. Their Happy Hour runs Monday through Friday from 2:45 pm to 6:00 pm. During this time, they provide specials on cappuccinos, lattes, and chai lattes; as well as menu items like bruschetta, fried calamari, and mini panini sliders.
Tiramisu and Cappuccino
The restaurant is also up on the trend of Instagram-worthy Charcuterie boards. Piccola Caffetteria has boards perfect for one, two, or four people. Each board includes olives, a variety of cheeses, crackers, prosciutto, cold cuts, fruit, and honey.
About the Business
Prior to opening, the owners of Piccola Caffetteria fully renovated the space. Their goal was to transform it “into a cozy, inviting café and micro-restaurant designed for both grab-and-go and casual dine-in,” Renee explains. “It’s cozy and charming with a touch of elegance; perfect for casual morning coffee or a quick afternoon lunch and dinner with the family.”
Piccola Caffetteria is co-owned by Renne along with Maurizio Nicita. Renee has a background in business and health, while Maurizio brings years of experience in Italian food and hospitality. The owners are building neighbors who live down the street and love the neighborhood. “We’ve seen how authentic Italian and Sicilian spots have slowly disappeared,” Renee says. “We knew it was time to bring that tradition back in a way that feels local, personal, and genuinely delicious.”

The two are currently exploring additional locations and expansion opportunities. “The goal is to bring the Piccola experience to more communities that crave this kind of authentic, approachable Italian café/restaurant concept,” Renee notes.
