Hey you got some tomatoes in your grubs

I found one singular horn worm and yeeted him into the woods and I’ve been looking for more but haven’t seen any. It’s hard to believe there’s just one though

    I can’t hate these guys, they’re just so cool. But man… you’ve got a looot 🫢😬🫣

We do a “tomato check” several times a day, catch one or two daily and put them on a sacrificial tomato at the other end of the yard. My boyfriend is a hornworm hugger and want them to become moths 🤣

I do recommend planting a crap ton of basil around the tomato plants. It seems to help.

I feel your pain! Last year was horrible. My tomatoes were decimated.

I’ve picked over a hundred off mine this year, worst I’ve ever had them in years of gardening. Those ones in your picture are some big boys.

    Their greed sickens me.

spray or net as this subreddit has taught me

  10. Going to keep suggesting this anytime these bastards are posted, handheld black light flashlights are sold on Amazon and are cheap. With you finding twenty, I would definitely invest in one. They are only like $20-40, and well worth it to have for future years. You go out after sunset and just scan every inch with it, they stand out bright green under it. It will give you piece of mind knowing you got them all.

  11. Does dish soap work on these? If so, bucket of death.

Urp. I had a similar experience the other day. I grabbed a stem and felt something…pulse…under my fingers; it was one of these fucks.

I plucked it and it *fucking squealed at me.* It was writhing and Lovecraftian.

Then, I grabbed another stem and it was right above my fingers. Nasty bastard, too. He’s now in an overturned pot with his bitch-ass cousin. I saw those fuckers scrabbling up the side, chittering, and I was *glad* to slam that motherfuckin pot *down.*

I’m gonna let them chill tonight, and then feed them to the birds tomorrow.

    Edit: submitted before finished

NoooOOOoooo, you have to save them because they’ll become moths! 🙄

I check regularly for droppings. They are often more noticable than the hornworms themselves. Any sign and I hi the plants with BT, and then usually one week later again. Takes quick care of them.

Thank god for the lizards keeping my yard safe

That you put them together with tomatoes in a bowl makes me wonder will they taste good to human… maybe fried?

  17. substandardpoodle

I used to gently toss them into an orb weaver’s spiderweb. Spider’s gotta eat, too.

Next year, I would honestly try to plant some native plants around your tomatoes so that they have something to eat other than that. I’ve heard of people doing this other plants and it seems to work well- like a decoy.

I got a UV flashlight and go out after dark, not only do they GLOW like crazy under the light, but their eggs glow as well. I only have to do this every few nights now because I’ve been able to locate and squash the eggs, getting ahead of the problem. With the light you can also see the baby ones are impossible to find during the day. Its pretty neat.

I just found one on my plant tonight too. Little bastard went straight to the bird feeder lol

We use neem oil to keep those little assholes at bay. Spray either once a week or after every rain storm

Hornworms are so annoying. The best way to find them before that are this big and can destroy your plant over night – go out there each morning and shake your plants vigorously. Baby ones fall off pretty easily. So just collect them off the ground and dispose of them. I’m talking so small they are hard to see! Wet soils helps you notice them

I thought this was a stir fry pic for a sec. 🤣

Maybe you should cook em up and thereby absorb their powers for future battles?
