My house has a balcony with this little room apparently designed to house a grill. It has a large kitchen fume hood, but it’s an enclosed space right up against my living room. Would you worry about this setup as a fire hazard? I love my house lol.

  1. Like designed to hold a traditional gas grill or blackstone griddle? Is there NG line in there?

Seems risky to run a wood/charcoal fired grill in there.

Its a no for me. Don’t do it. A vent isn’t going to keep the building around it from getting hot, melt, or just catch on fire. I don’t see this ending well personally

I might roll it in there when it’s cold for storage out of the elements. No way would I fire it up in there.

That’s an alright place to store that but you’re not going to want to cook in there. Yes it’s a fire hazard but even if this was all concrete the smoke and heat would be unbearable.

    Absolutely don’t do this.

Maybe that hood is meant for another kind of 🚬.

What do you think your insurance will say if there’s a fire?

  7. Gas can’t burn as hot as your egg will if you forget the vent is open. There is no fireproofing wood siding or framing if you’ve got forgemode going on the egg. With as many times as I’ve accidentally let it get to that point, it’s only a matter of when this is a house fire.

This looks as not fire safe as possible.
    Please don’t do this.

Green eggs require 18” clearance on all sides plus 5’ clearance above. This is because they put out INSANE levels of heat, embers, smoke, and gas that can easily exceed 1,000F degrees and often burst with intense balls of flames in every direction.

You’re asking if it’s safe to contain that in a heavily undersized box made of highly combustible materials that’s attached to the home you love filled with you, your family, and everything you hold dear?

A fire marshal once told me not to use a big green egg within ten feet of a combustible fuel source, that includes the floor the walls and the ceiling.

Looks like a good way to burn your house down and get your home owners insurance cancelled.

I am not a professional do not take my advice as any thing other than some shit some jerk on Reddit heard.

That is a stellar set up for a 500 degree gas grill, that is a horrific set up for a live fire 1200 degree egg lol. Please do not light that in there unless you are smoking and even then I’d probably worry

I think that’s built for an after grill room to roll a warm grill into and suck the fumes out. I’m going to stick to that story, too, because in no world should you have a 850°+ grill in there. Metal framed, with concrete board walls and siding, maybe. And that’s still a big maybe.

Really appreciate the community I think we are going to move the egg.

  14. I don’t understand. You moved in and a viking range hood was already installed in the storage closet on your patio?

I hope you really knew the answer to your question before you asked it. I gotta believe.

Edit: I would seriously suggest you don’t cook on that balcony either. It looks like it’s not even 3 feet wide. I would hope you have something on the ground outside. That’s more suitable. Really hate to see a fellow egger lose his house.

Got me a Chrysler it’s as big as a whale and it’s about to cook steak…

  17. rangespecialist2

Yes, if for some reason it was left unattended with top and bottom vents open then it could very easily have flames shoot up several feet high like a giant blow torch. The heat would likely go even higher.

Low and slow at 225° r/whatcouldgowrong

  19. What everyone else said but I’d use the room for any crafts with fumes/spray gun painting stuff.

It’s definitely meant for a low and slow setup. Not for high temp grilling and open lid barbecue cook.
