Sanity check, did I get the firebox right? Doesn’t seem like a great fit, but maybe that’s ok?

Looks better than mine honestly. I used to be meticulous about it but now if the ring stays on I call it a day no matter how tight the for is lol

If you want to be perfect you can check that it’s evenly spaced all around. But your tastebuds won’t care and that time could be spent getting that fire rolling !

Yep that looks great. It may not look all perfectly snug, but it’s not supposed to as there needs to be room for thermal expansion in the ceramics, or they’ll compress each other under heat and then crack.

Is this an electric starter?!

Just remember these pictures. That Joe will never be to clean again.

Ot took me years to get mine installed correctly. Using the paper towel method helps a lot with alignment. As long as the fire ring is even, it’s good. If not, the ring will eventually warp and not hold the leaves together

Make sure the indentations in the ring are exactly at 12 – 3 – 6 – 9 o’clock positions. So your grates are lined up correctly. The D&C rack sits in those indents.
