Sarah’s Handmade Ice Cream, the beloved Bethesda-born creamery, is set to open its fourth Montgomery County location in Chevy Chase. The newest location will take over the storefront previously occupied by The Charmery, which closed last month after two years in business. To celebrate the announcement, we are giving away five signature Sarah’s Handmade ice cream flights that can be redeemed at one of the ice cream shop’s current locations.

This latest expansion marks a significant milestone for Sarah’s Handmade, which has quickly become a regional favorite since its inception. The new Chevy Chase outpost will be located at 8551 Connecticut Avenue, filling a void left by The Charmery’s recent closure after a two-year run.

The story of Sarah’s Handmade Ice Cream is a heartwarming tale of passion, family, and community. It all began in the early 1990s in South Korea, where Sarah Park, a mother with a discerning palate, started making homemade ice cream for her daughter, Annie. After the family immigrated to Bethesda, Maryland, in 2000, Sarah rekindled her hobby upon retirement in 2018. Her original recipes, crafted with the highest-quality, all-natural ingredients, quickly garnered a following, leading to calls and orders from eager strangers.

Recognizing the immense potential, Sarah enlisted the help of her daughter, Annie Park, a Harvard graduate with a strong entrepreneurial spirit. What started as a temporary project quickly blossomed into a full-time commitment. Under Annie’s leadership, Sarah’s Handmade Ice Cream rapidly expanded, with each scoop shop dedicated to offering 40 daily, site-made flavors that Sarah herself would be “proud to serve her own family.”

From nostalgic classics and seasonal creations to vegan options and even doggie ice cream, Sarah’s Handmade strives to offer something for every member of the family. Beyond the delicious treats, the company is also deeply committed to employee mentorship and growth, as well as giving back to the community, earning it numerous accolades and features in prominent media outlets.

The Chevy Chase location will join Sarah’s Handmade’s existing Montgomery County shops at:

• 5241 River Road, Bethesda (Original Location)
• 10219 Old Georgetown Road, Bethesda (Wildwood Shopping Center)
• 14929 Shady Grove Road, Rockville (Fallsgrove Village Center

This expansion into Chevy Chase further solidifies Sarah’s Handmade’s presence in Montgomery County. Looking beyond the county lines, the company has also been confirmed to be opening its first DC location at 2029 P Street, NW, in Dupont Circle.
