I was a decorator for years but having to do it from home is a different ballgame and I hate it. It’s hard to make colors look right and just smaller amount of tools makes this difficult for me. Just looks so much shorter than other cakes of mine from work. Is it as bad as I think it is or am I over reacting?

I think it looks great!
I thought the first pic was the Pinterest inspiration photo, and I was a little confused when I swiped to the second photo! It looks great, I think you might just be being a little hard on yourself. If I look hard enough, sure, I can see some little imperfections, but I don’t think anyone else will be looking as hard as you/the Internet people will
The “one” slice is much too big. It’s overwhelming the rest of the cake. It’s very pretty beyond that.
You’re right, the colors would “pop” more under fluorescents.
I think the lighting in your kitchen may have something to do with that
I literally thought you were posting about hating the design concept. I thought “if it’s not your cup of tea that is fine but I think that’s cute and clever.” It looks great. I would order that in a bakery.
I don’t think I would have done the trimming on the floral slice but besides that it’s awesome and fun and funny and pretty
I think it’s lovely and rather funny! The huge first piece is always something we playfully fight for at birthdays, so this would fit in my family perfectly.
I think it’s cute.
I love this!!!
its passive aggressive, catty and mean
It’s for the person who loves buttercream flowers on their birthday cake 🎂 (or anyone’s) I’m that person 😆 I would love this and it’s gorgeous ✨ Oh and it’s not too big of a slice because it’s 2 slices, one for the party and one for breakfast tomorrow:)
I love everything about it! Not seen this idea before either. It’s cool.
This is adorable 🥰 Pam will absolutely love it!! 💗🌸
I think the slice is too big if that makes sense. It is over the centerline. I made this but for my mother for Mother’s Day and had the same issue. I remade it and it looked much better! Other than that it looks amazing
The design is amazing – unique, and well executed
I think the off-centerness of the slice decoration is what’s throwing you off – its more comical because the slice looks bigger, but its a bit “off” because that’s not actually how the slice would look if you cut a cake in quarters or eighths
I want Pam’s slice!!
This is a very beautiful cake. It shows that you have good skills and aesthetics. Don’t doubt yourself.
I’m not sure why this showed up on my feed, but I think this is adorable.
If it’s my birthday the whole cake is mine, so I only see one flaw with this… invert it. Full flowers everywhere then one blank slice that says “pink’s slice” pointing out to the REST of the cake.
I think it’s the colours are a little bright, kinda gives primary school vibes, but especially the yellow. This could also just be the lighting. But honestly it wouldn’t come to mind unless you are asking for what to do to improve it. If I saw it without the context in this post it would just look like a nice cake.
This is absolutely adorable, I love it
This is such a beautiful cake. The tips of the flowers look realistic instead of being so smoothly pressed yknow (if that was the issue)? This looks like such a scrumptious cake. You did such an amazing job! (I would buy this)
Honestly, this is so cute!
Maybe the piping on the letters could be a little more crisp? Maybe the frosting was a touch too warm at that point, or maybe the tip was too big for the size of the cake, but it looks just a tiny bit smaushed. I still think it’s adorable and a very great cake! I think you’re being too hard on yourself, it’s lovely!
Colors aren’t my vibe, but I love the idea!
Like others, I thought you had beef with there being a slice for the birthday person. The cake looks perfectly fine. I would 100% love this (less girly though) for my birthday. You’re being too critical of yourself.
This looks great 👍
I think I envy u Pam
This is really cute! But I totally know what you mean about working in a different environment with limited tools. I instantly feel disorganised and making small amounts of things instead of big batches drives me crazy. But this is a success and you should be proud of it!
Over reacting definitely. You did a great job but I think it’s beginning to feel like a chore rather than making you happy.
I think the arrow is throwing it off, but it’s a darn beautiful cake period.
It’s the colors. The colors aren’t right. Otherwise the design is perfect.
I think it looks amazing! Concept is beautiful. Colors beautiful.
I love it! It looks great and is a very cute concept. ❤️
That’s hilarious! I love it
I think you did a great job. The only thing throwing me off is the colors but I’m not the best judge of colors on cakes though. Your letter piping is fantastic. I’d love to see a cake you’re happy with if you’re not happy with this one. You’re supremely talented!
It’s so pretty!!
It is literally perfect. If i received this cake i would die on the spot, be resurrected by the sheer beauty of the cake, and then take a million pics so I can cherish its memory before i devour it.
I think your execution is professional looking and the design is adorable, but I totally get what you’re saying about the difference between a home kitchen and a bakery setting.
I cooked for a time in the ‘Chef prepared’ department of a fresh market style grocery store and really dug making huge portions with restaurant sized equipment. Making the same salad or entree at home just feels a little meh even though the flavour is exact, something about that giant lasagna in a hotel pan seems luxurious while the size at home seems stingy now.
This is beautiful! I learned the lighting in my house SUCKED not just for photos but for how my eyes saw colors on the projects I worked on, and how I always felt my projects fell flat. $40 adjustable standing ring light (with tons of different light options) from Target really helped me with taking accurate photos and it’s helped out even with needing a light for painting, makeup and SEEING what I’m doing! The yellow lighting we tend to have in our house does us zero favors for colors ( but I think it is less stressful on the eyes if I remember correctly?). Either way, beautiful cake!
This is so pretty, you are doing well I think!
You are overreacting it looks great.
