Got wild and tried something new at a local Italian café:

Maritozzi — a soft, slightly sweet brioche bun split and filled with fresh whipped cream.

Originating in Rome, this humble treat has roots as far back as ancient times, once gifted by lovers on the first of March (sometimes with a hidden ring inside).

If you’re ever wandering through the cobblestone streets of Trastevere or stopping at a Roman forno in the early morning light… keep your eyes out for one.

I’ll be enjoying the ones at my local Italian bakery until I touch down in Italy next year.

Sometimes travel inspiration starts with dessert.

Have you tried one?! Thoughts?
