Cranberry sauce is a staple during the holidays. However, I like to put a twist on traditional cranberry sauce by making a HOLIDAY CRANBERRY RELISH. This relish pairs the big flavor and jewel-toned color of cranberries with a mix of seasonal fruits. It is easy to make and taste great. This sweet relish is the perfect topping for crackers. It tastes great with charcuterie and is a delicious side dish for Thanksgiving Day turkey, Christmas ham, roast beef or prime rib. In short, this cranberry relish taste great on just about everything. You should give it a try this holiday season.

HOLIDAY CRANBERRY RELISH
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup orange juice
1-pound fresh cranberries, rinsed
1 large apple, cored, peeled & diced
1 cup dried golden raisins
1 Tbsp balsamic vinegar

1. Place a pot over medium-low heat. Add sugar, cinnamon and salt. Toast until fragrant, about 2 minutes. Stir in orange juice. Add cranberries, diced apple and raisins. Gently combine and bring to a boil. Immediately reduce to simmer. Cook 5 minutes, stirring halfway through. Remove from heat and stir in balsamic vinegar. Transfer to a heat proof serving dish and enjoy. You can also refrigerate and eat later. Relish will keep in refrigerator for 2 weeks.

This year skip the cranberry sauce that you purchase at the grocery store and cook this simple recipe. This recipe yields enough relish so you will have leftovers to use after your holiday feast. It is packed with fruit and uses just enough sugar to balance the natural bitterness found in fresh cranberries. Give this cranberry side dish a try this holiday season. I think you will fall in love with it.

The perfect balance of sweet and tangy,
Dana
