I ordered the Weber Summit from Home Depot, no stores had it in stock but the offered free next day delivery so I chose that. The following day I received a delay notice, then another delay notice the following day, then another, then it arrived.

The video shows the delivery and the state of the contents of the package. I didn't make it much past what's shown before deciding I was returning it. The lid is all scratched up and who knows if all the parts are even in the box.

Most of the damage is likely FedEx's fault. I suppose Weber could package the product better if this is a common occurrence. This may have also been a return to Home Depot and that's why everything's all messed up inside. Who knows….

Starting the return process online Home Depot only lists, "return to store" as an available means of return. I chatted with their AI bot who eventually connected me to what I think was a real person and they agreed to send UPS to my house to pickup the grill. They sent me a copy of the UPS shipping label and said I would be contacted in a day or two. So, I give HD credit for handling this as best they could.

This just sums up the world we live in at this point. Support and warranty trump just about everything at this point when Im making any kind of substantial purchase.

Home Depot outsourced delivery of my Weber Spirit to some no name company. I hunted them down when it didn’t show up. Had to get refunded. Now I don’t order big heavy things from Home Depot.

Ship to store and picking it up yourself would have let you see the box before buying it. And taking it back to the store yourself would have been a lot easier than organizing it to be picked up. You kinda made this as hard on yourself as possible.

  4. ups driver here.

depending on the driver, you might have issue sending that back. The ups driver might very well refuse to pick the box up if its beat to hell and not taped up appropriately.

Any damages should be sent back by the courier who delivered them.

I would withhold praise for HD for the time being, they might have created you another headache.

That sucks. For what it’s worth, on larger items, I usually ship to store for pickup to limit the handling/mishandling. At least at the store, there’s a better chance they would use lifts and pallette jacks to move things around

This happened with my blackstone when I ordered it from Walmart. Box was all banged up, luckily not scratches or dents on the blackstone.

  7. Arch-by-the-way

It’s a metal sphere. The box isn’t what you’re paying for.

I hope you didn’t pay new prices for that. Honestly I don’t blame the carrier. I don’t think in this case the package was too roughly handled. That package was used and returned. On top of that wasn’t repacked correctly.

  9. Load_Dramatic

I haven’t unboxed one of these myself but based on every other Weber I’ve dealt with, that’s definitely been returned/repacked. Probably a store display

  10. Security cams ftw. This reminds me when I had black aluminum fencing from HD delivered by XPO, 3 times they tried to deliver boxes that they skewered with a fork lift and were surprised the metal was all bent to shit, luckily I was home for each attempt

What’s missing is the image of it out of the box.

Nothing like someone manhandling a $1,400 grill. Pretty awful for a supposedly good company like FedEx.

I had a mini fridge delivered like this for our brand new kitchen. The dude was lazy and did not want to use the hand truck. Had stamped heavy all over it. I could see the dents in the packaging was deep. I told him. You know you’re coming back in 2 days to pick this up right. All because you mishandled it.

Unwrapped it and the bottom of the fridge vent was all dented in. And the dirt frames were all dented in. I live in a very public road so I have 3 ring cameras on my front property and pointing right at my mailbox which was right where the moron dumped it from his truck.

Shared it with UPS and Home Depot. Along with photos. Got my money pack an Home Depot was like you don’t need to return it. And I sand No no… it needs to be returned. File an insurance claim and have UPS come back pick it up.

Dude was back 2 days later. I was smiling and said ok buddy got your hand truck? He looked at me like no. Tough shit you got a long way to go with that. And you hit my car and I’ll call UPS about that too.

He went back and got the hand truck.

    Moron.

Bought one of these a few years back from HD and my bowl and lid had minor scuffs on them, also had some missing pieces. I contacted Weber and they sent me a new bowl, lid, and missing parts. They simply requested pictures of the damage. I didn’t have to send the scuffed bowl or lid back to them so now I have a spare bowl & lid.

The good thing is the Summit Kamodo isn’t lined inside with a ceramic firebox like many other kamodo-type grills. It is double steel construction to provide the insulation. That said, the driver likely didn’t know that and obviously doesn’t give a shit the way he rolled it off the truck. I’d think that his supervisor might like to see the video too.

  16. This isn’t FedEx’s fault.

This is actually Home Depot’s fault.

Normally it would be Weber’s fault if they shipped it from their warehouse like this.

But Home Depot decided to ship this box, that arrived to them on a pallet. Normally, it would be an in store pick up; no issue. But with Home Depot trying to stay with the times and offer an online marketplace, this happens…

This should have been LTL freight shipped by Home Depot.

ALWAYS pick up big or expensive items in a store. Then you can refuse the accept the pickup and more than likely you won’t have to because if it arrives at the store beat up they’ll figure it out and delay your pickup until it’s made right.

So you had a Fedex experience, not a Home Depot experience.

Contracting it out as Lowe’s and HD are both doing it is an issue we’ve had with damaged shipments. No ownership to the company.
I’ve also picked up damaged flooring boxes at Lowe’s and the customer service person there actually looked at the damaged box and said “ it looks ok to me”. I pointed out the damaged sides of 4 pieces of flooring making them unusable and asked them to credit my acct back. I think overall product handling is an issue, as others said if you can it’s easier to ship the product to store and then do an inspection.

This is why I hate FedEx, they dont know how to properly unload things or deliver with care. Like why are we charged a shipping AND handling, half the time they’d be better with one guy in the back of the truck and just shoving it off the back onto the lawn and focusing on speedy deliveries

  21. macius_big_mf

Nothing to do with HD…it’s fedex thing

  22. Euphoric_Yak_3582

Blame Home Depot for FedEx? Makes sense.

  23. hunglikejudas8

I actually stop any order I’m making when I see that it is being shipped by FedEx.
