An Italian restaurant in Boston that just celebrated its 22nd anniversary is getting ready to close for good.
Grotto in Beacon Hill “will be closing later this summer,” Owner Scott Herritt wrote on the restaurant’s website and in an Instagram post on July 6.
While an exact closing date has yet to be set, Herritt said the restaurant’s lease will expire in September.
“We will keep you all up to date on our last night of service,” he wrote. “This has been a very difficult decision, but the time has come for a new chapter.”
Grotto is known for serving classic Italian dishes in a dimly-lit, romantic dining room. Herritt said the restaurant has “celebrated countless milestones” over the years.
“Watching your families grow has been one of the greatest joys of this work,” he wrote. “It has been the privilege to serve and welcome our loyal guests over the years.”
Grotto will continue to serve dinner every night of the week from 5-9 p.m. until the restaurant closes.
“I hope you’ll come visit us before we say goodbye,” Herritt wrote. “To all our incredible staff, past and present, and to everyone who has dined with us over the years: thank you. You’ve made Grotto the special place it has been, and I will carry those memories with me always.”
Grotto is located at 37 Bowdoin St., Boston.
