I… Consider myself a spice fiend. In this particular occasion I drank melindas ghost sauce… To cool down.
I don't know if it was a freak occurrence or the new standard, but, I bought serannos from walmart.
I'm a fiend. I love ghost pepper sauce, Carolina reapers. Etc. the one chip challenge to me tasted like stale cardboard that induced a tiny bit of tears.
Today I was humbles and I messed up.
My fiance is allergic to cayenne and potentially certain seeds. Given I love heat she's willing to indulge me in the occasional test.
Today, I fucked up. This seed was not only a killer for her, but when I tried it, it was beyond everything but pepper x. I literally drank the wing sauce of ghost pepper Melinda's to cool down. She and I both hit ice cream bars and milk to offset the sheer heat and pain!
I have never felt this helpless before heat. I feel worse for her who hasn't dealt with anything spicier than white pepper.
Dear gods of capscaicin; have any of you hit this point?

Yeahhhh Serranos don’t play. Even a tiny piece of one clears my sinuses.
My stomach just refuses to digest fresh peppers properly. The next day is like some kind of state sponsored torture for me. I’ve just grown to accept I can’t fuck with them. 🤷♂️
And here I am with a grocery store that’s sells no super hots, Serrano’s are the spiciest offering and they carry no heat. Sucks to be me sometimes
A taco shop by me has roasted serranos in their salsa bar. I always eat a few as I’m waiting for my order. Most serranos are tolerable by my standards but every once in a while, I get one that rocks me.
First time raw dogging a chili?
It’s not the same. At all.
I get serranos often. Chop em up and mix with jalapeños, tomatillos and green onion and use as a topping, or keep them separate and add to mashed potatoes, chili, etc. I’ll eat a few small pieces by themselves and their hot but not ridiculous and definitely not as hot as the one chip i tried a couple years ago. Or even the habaneros I’ve added to stuff and tried small pieces of. I’ve only had ghost pepper sauce and reaper sauce and dried reapers I’ve added to salsa. I cannot imagine a serrano being hotter than that! But thats just my experience
Serrano peppers vary a lot from batch to batch. I normally eat them raw with a bit of salt with meals. I normally take 3-4 bites to finish one. Yesterday I ate one that had me coughing up a storm with how much heat it had.
Fresh peps hit different.
Fresh are always hotter than sauces, except for the sauces that aren’t deceiving the public.
Bailey’s farm is legit. Even their jalapenos are hot, prime growing season in NC. Get em while they are hot
People commenting seem to forget the spice level of some of these peppers vary wildly based on their terroir. Hottest jalapeño I have had was a pickled one out of a subway in vail Colorado. Still chasing another one like it… just will never be from subway again unless I’m desperate on a road trip
