    (1) The box

    (2) The meal – Barbari bread harissa sardine sandwich with hummus-ajvar spread and Raita, extras of the spiced hummus and raita on the side (I ate those extra dips with Triscuits)

(3-5) Fish in the tin, decanted on a plate and split in half (makes the fish stick to the sandwich better)

(6-7) Make the raita: Plain yogurt, chopped tomato, chopped parsley, 1 clove grated fresh garlic, MDH garam masala

    (8) This piece of Barbari bread was being unloaded into the World Food Warehouse direct from the nearby bakery (less than a mile away), still warm from the oven. YES, I’LL TAKE ONE, PLEASE

(9-10) Assemble the sandwich: stir some ajvar in canned himmus, then spread on the bread. Pour any tin sauce on the other side of the bread and top with some raita. Arrange fish on either side, add some sliced romaine lettuce for crunch. Fold over and enjoy!

    (11) I added Triscuits to consume the extra spreads

    (12) The bite – a bit blurry sorry

These Sadaf Moroccan Sardines in Harissa are my #1 Harissa sardine of all. Historically, I’ve had to go all the way to Arlington (45 miles one way) to find these, so I’m THRILLED to discover them at the World Food Warehouse in Richardson!

If you are in NTX, WFW is worth a pilgrimage. Come during the week – weekends are CRAZY. Also park on the street to avoid 12-15 point turns to get out of the parking lot without dinging anyone else. YW 🤣

The best thing about these Sadaf Harissa sardines is that you can taste the smoke and spice in the real harissa sauce – no need to add your own.

The heat from the two chile peppers is not overwhelming – it compliments, not dominates, the smokiness of the harissa, which permeates the fish flesh, creating a smoky, savory, spicy sardine that will become a craving – promise!

I’ve tried so many other brands of Harissa sardines, and their”harissa” is just watery tomato sauce with a little chili. Harissa is no much more complex than that!

If I need to add my own harissa to your “harissa” sardines, I need to keep looking! And I did – for almost a year, when I found them at the Halal Market on Pioneer Parkway in Arlington.

12/10 will buy again – my #1 harissa sardine of all

Those are my favorite Moroccan sardines for whatever it’s worth. Need to hit the local market that carries those and get some more.
