Hi there!

I ordered a birthday cake from a bakery – but I can’t help but feel really disappointed with how it came out.

I feel like the design on top of the cake is piped messily and the details were overlooked. My request for custom text was forgotten and the buttercream is incredibly dense.

They charged me 120€ for a 20cm cake (I asked for basic sponge + vanilla buttercream + jam). They offered a 20€ discount when my husband went to pick it up as he was disappointed that they didn’t write the text I asked for.

Was €100 a fair price for such a cake? I have no idea about pricing!

Thanks in advance

hi you got robbed, sry to say

That cake is awful. The piping for the top is pitiful but the inside really made me sad for you with that huge glob of icing

  3. PretendHistory6904

Something that size and with that many layers and added flavor in the middle would definitely cost that much in my area. I’m in the US. But you are correct about the lack of detail not being worth it. It’s adorable, but seems like whoever decorated it was in a rush and couldn’t be bothered.

The ratio of cake to buttercream in the layers is….triggering. I would send these pictures back to the bakery and let them know. Or leave a review, I’d hate to get a cake like this on my birthday when I was accepting something completely different

  5. Nurse_Hatchet

That bottom layer is simply ghastly, to say the least. The decoration is problematic, but the quality of the cake itself is disgraceful for a place comporting to be a professional bakery!

It’s not the price that is the issue. They fucked up and sold it anyways. Give the picture of the inside to the owner/manager. I’d expect half off my next item.

This was done poorly. They didn’t do the custom writing, the deco is not good and the filling wasn’t done right because the cake wasn’t torted properly. That is why the layers were so uneven. I would contact them again and say that you appreciate the discount but upon slicing the cake, the layers were also not up to standard and you would like a refund. I think that price would be fair if it were executed properly but unfortunately this cake is bad. If the bakery doesn’t have the skills to properly fill and frost cakes they shouldn’t offer them. They also should have told you to set the cake out at room temp for an hour or so, so that the frosting could soften up. Most frosting will be hard when it’s cold and right out of the fridge.

The price would be fair if they didn’t demolish the cake and glob icing over everything to try to fix it.

  9. CapricornCrude

Leave a review according. I’m sorry. This is a disaster.

  10. Rosebud_apothocary

How are they a professional bakery when they can’t even get the layers even? Plus it looks quite dry to me and the decoration is messy

  11. whereforeamihere

Horribly done— price would have been fair if it were done properly.

But also I have to ask, why did you want a dachshund farting confetti on a cake? 😅

  12. No-Sock9573

… tbh I would be embarrassed if I made that for someone and I’m just a home baker for fun. That looks like shit lol

  13. NotTheMama4208

This is horrible. The layers and filling are uneven, decoration awful. I would want a refund.

  14. VamVam6790

That price would have likely been perfectly fair had the cake been as expected…the issue here is the atrocious execution! Terrible uneven layers, I’m a frosting fan but that amount of internal buttercream is ridiculous and *dense!*, there’s missing custom details, the icing is messy and the details are sloppy and poorly done

The price was probably fine in principal, it only ended up being a horrendously bad deal because they decided to hand you a plate of garbage instead of the birthday cake you paid for

  15. adrikovitch

You should post this in their reviews online. If I was looking at a bakery to purchase a cake, I would like to know. That’s so sloppy! That’s pretty wild.

  16. Skippers2024

Honestly it looks like someone did that at home. An amateur not a professional. You should not have paid that amount. I’m sorry

  17. cyclecalves

What intern did they get to make this?

  18. blessica90

I’d want a full refund. Even a novice baker couldn’t pull off such uneven layers… looks super intentional. They 100% knew the messed up and sent it out anyways.

  19. Negative_Age863

This is unfortunately the second time recently I’ve had to say this around here.

*That cake was made by a baker who does not have the skill to make cakes at this level.*

Frankly, I don’t think they should be selling cakes at all yet. The skills just aren’t there.

  20. BairyHalsack

This person knows the logistics of making cake, but their skills are nowhere near marketable yet

  21. culinarysiren

Was this a professional bakery or a home baker selling on the side? Cause if that’s professional that’s a travesty.

  22. Careless_Effect_1997

At first, for dog drawing, I said “Meh”. Then the inside was “thats sad”. Then I read what you paid, “bruh”. They messed up

  23. mecegirl

The inside bothers me more than the outside… Like at least make it properly, so that tastes good… Those layers are horrible.

  24. TeddyGrahamNap

It may not have a cute dog or jam in it, but I literally have a $20 Costco cake in the fridge that looks better than that. Definitely ask for your money back, that’s a wild amount for something executed so poorly.

  25. Salty-Apricot-6319

The dog doesn’t even have a butthole ❌️

  26. That’s $240 in my money, NO WAY is that worth it! I am no baker, but I sincerely believe I could do better!!! I’m so sorry! The inside of that cake looks as bad as the simple basic decorations!

  27. Electronic-Bite-6044

That is a TON of frosting… how did it taste?

  28. Pelotonic-And-Gin

Oh shit. I’d be super pissed if I paid a dime for that cake. This is the kind of thing you should name and shame so nobody ever buys a cake from them again.

  29. deviousvixen

Wow that’s a bad cake… sorry you had to have that. It looks like the layers are either not baked through or just thin… and uneven, didn’t even trim the dome off to make it equal all the way through the cake… why is the icing thicker than the actual cake.. and the design… very simple… whoever made your order must be new to the bakery….

  30. TheHobbyDragon

I enjoy a thick layer of frosting on a cake and have been known to eat frosting with a spoon straight out of the bowl, but damn, even for me that looks like too much, and the cake itself doesn’t even look properly baked. I’ve gotten better made and decorated cakes from the grocery store bakery for $10-$20.

Unless it ended up being an amazingly delicious cake despite appearances, if you still have most of the cake left I would be taking it back and asking for a refund.

  31. eowynTA3019

Holy fuck. I have paid les than €30 for something a thousand times better than that.

  32. rettebdel

Pastry chef here – that cake is a joke. Decorating aside, the uneven cake and frosting layers are insane. You deserve a full refund, or at least a remake.

  33. peckerlips

I love frosting, but damn …

    Definitely not worth it.

  34. Halpmezaddy

OP please leave a review and do not take it down if they ask you to remove it. Fuck that bullshit.

  35. sewxcute

I love frosting more than most people but that cut picture just looks SO wrong.

  36. Colfrmb

You will need an insulin shot after a slice of that cake. The baker and decorator need to be fired and you need all your money back. Get a pie.

  37. omgkelwtf

I’m looking at the decorating and thinking, yeah, not great but it’s cake! Then I got to the pic of it cut. Oh my God. No. No no no. I just bake and decorate for fun but fudging the levelness of the overall cake with 4cm of buttercream is just, no. What the hell? Were they drunk?

  38. Liawolf11

As a baker, I feel outraged on your behalf. The exterior looks decent enough, but the inside is awful. The sponge looks dense. And the sheer amount of buttercream they slathered on to even it out due to shoddy baking makes me want to come over and bake you a better cake. You did not get your moneys worth OP.

  39. TeaTimeType

As a baker and decorator I would never charge someone money for a cake that is such a train wreck inside. They should be embarrassed and mortified if they see this picture. Ratio of cake to frosting is waaaay off. And the torting… Such a basic cake to mess up!

Forget the piping, the texture of the cake looks terrible and the frosting / icing looks solid and plasticky. I mean anything fat based will be dense and firm when chilled but this looks like a solid block of vegetable fat. Also did they run out of jam?!

I’m sorry about your cake, you deserve a full refund!

Anyways, I hope the rest of your birthday was fun. Wishing you many, many more!

  40. passisgullible

Is it just me or is the dog shitting confetti?

  41. Notworld

That’s some dense looking sponge. Some might call it stodgy.

  42. Beegkitty

How do you get the interior of the cake so wonky?!

  43. I’m sorry that’s nowhere near close to being worth the price you paid. I’m with another commenter I feel so bad I want to almost make you a proper cake to make up for it.

Your inspiration pic is adorable, love the dog 😂

  44. jnwatson

I’m not a super experienced baker and I could do a lot better.

  45. 1plus1equals8

It looks raw or undercooked… Dense as concrete. The layers are poorly formed. The decoration is abysmal.
Yeah you were overcharged by about 120.

  46. automaticphil

Yikes. What a ripoff. Did they make it blindfolded?

  47. swimpig

They didn’t include the dogs butthole which I feel is really adding insult to injury!

  48. katiel0429

I decorate cookies, not cakes, but even I know enough to say this is unprofessional. I’m sorry OP! This isn’t okay.
