First 2 seasons were better than the last 2.

  2. Yeah, I never got the hype. It’s just a ton of clichés with mediocre acting.

i’ve tried to start The Bear a couple times now and each time make it through a couple episodes and then just never go back. It’s a just a little corny? Plus there isn’t really the novelty that I imagine most viewers get from the show for many of us. We know how kitchens are lol. Fine if people like it, but it’s just not for me

As an outsider I get an impression of what’s going on.

    Huh?

Yeah, it’s real lol. That’s what it is.

I absolutely get that most folks here don’t want to relax with a show about ‘work’, and it is a little corny. But I think it gets a lot of little things spot-on. The cameraderie of a good crew; the bonkers stress of a hard service; how fucked up some very talented people are; how obtuse a lot of people are to their own dysfunction.

    It’s a hard watch.

    First season was awesome.
    That’s it.

I mean yes it’s real. Fuck man I’ve talked with owners who tell me “next time let it burn”. I watched a few episodes and I’m good. Some of it is real sure, a lot is just Hollywood. Same goes for the “cooking competition” shows. It’s mostly fake too. If it’s on a screen, there’s a small bit of true or real to it, the rest is just to keep you coming back.

Some parts of the show i relate. A lot is amped up hyperbole for shock value that is relatively rare in kitchens. His sous is an idiot.

I think it’s very much akin to doctors and nurses watching a medical drama. Or an IT guy watching someone “hack” in the movies. TV shows and movies have to create drama and often a narrative that doesn’t resonate on a 1:1 scale with people who work in the industry.

But they typically get the gist of it. You have to suspend your beliefs and knowledge because otherwise you’re going to critique every little thing for being unrealistic.

show and this bit are real. Overall a Good show and at least season 1 is worth a watch

Some moments and episodes are amazing. Some are over the top, like people who have never cooked observing one crazy dinner service, then trying to describe it. Season 3 is… mostly forgettable. I’m still struggling with the awkwardness of the last minute of the last episode of season 3.

Truly one of the most insufferable shows I’ve ever seen

How tf do you start a fryer fire in a restaurant that scrubs everything spotless every day.

  15. Once you realize it’s a show about generational trauma and Internal Family System Therapy that just happens to be set in a restaurant it’s easier to ignore the “that’s not how that works”

Well the shitty music and the clipped conversation sure isn’t helping

Did anyone else get that the “putting the fire out” is a metaphor? The show was very subtle about that.

The show is an amazing case study on imperfect leadership. I find myself going back to it and trying to find ways to improve myself through his failures. Good show, really emotional and kind of hard to watch because it makes you feel.

It’s a good scene as shot originally, without the added music and extra tiktok cuts.

My wife and I are chefs. She’s a bad ass; 20 years experience, French culinary trained (Le Cordon Bleu), competition cooking TV shows & other TV spots, magazine articles, cooked at the James Beard House, worked for Thomas Keller & Jose Andrés. And I’m a self taught BBQ Pitmaster.

With executives in the kitchen, a Prep Cook accidentally started a fire. The fireball was as big as the Prep Cook’s outstretched arms, then just blazed on for a few seconds. My wife casually walked up to the grill (like checking the mailbox), grabbed a metric ton of salt, and smothered the fire. It took maybe 3 seconds to go from full inferno to “Show’s over. Back to work.”

I never watched the Bear but it’s the second time I see this scene on reddit and it’s crazy to me that they just go outside with their apron like that, why is no one pointing it out lol your apron is for when you are working in the kitchen not when you’re out of the kitchen on break or going to the bathroom etc its nasty
