People often point to Peter Luger as the #1 example of an iconic NYC restaurant coasting on its reputation, but at least at PL their burger is still one of the best in the city. All the food we ate at Don Peppe, including the shrimp cocktail, rigatoni with sausage, baked clams, and chicken parmigiana lacked flavor and was way too salty. The bread was also pathetic for an Italian restaurant. In my opinion, the portions were big, but not overwhelmingly big as advertised. The baked clams especially could easily be finished by one person.
Not to mention that the waiter was so hostile and unfriendly that he seemed to believe that him getting a good tip was a given.
