If you’ve ever found yourself wanting to be whisked away in an afternoon of smoky, flame-grilled meat, fantastic wine, and fabulous company, then we’ve found just the thing. This August, Lobethal’s Golding Wines are serving up just that, transforming their throwback Friday Braai nights in years past, into a slower, longer, and whole lot cosier Sunday sesh.

On Sunday, August 17th from 11am to 5pm, they’re inviting you to settle in for the day in their charming stone barn, surrounded by great food and unbeatable Hills hospitality.

If you’re yet to discover the world of Braai, think of it as the South African answer to a BBQ. It typically involves cooking meat over an open fire. But in South Africa, Braai isn’t just about the food, it’s a social ritual where you gather around with good friends and family, and enjoy what you’ve cooked together.

Golding’s Head Chef, Evert van Niekerk, was born and raised in South Africa, and is keen to bring these traditions to the Hills. Evert grew up with Braai in his bones, and for him, it’s more than cooking, it’s all about celebration, connection, and a good excuse to fire up the grill.

“After hosting a series of popular Friday Night Braai events last winter, this year we are excited to be dedicating a whole Sunday to the deliciousness that is South African Braai. It’s the perfect day out for the whole family,” shared Golding Wines Co-founder, Lucy Golding.

“Our South African-born chef Evert van Niekerk is a master on the chargrill and loves nothing better than feeding the crowds with delicious South African flavours.”

At the event, Evert and the team will be serving up all the South African-inspired favourites you’d expect. With everything from flame-grilled chicken wings, Adelaide Hills lamb chops, Boerewors (traditional South African sausage), corn on the cob, coleslaw, and garlic and herb flatbread.

Adult tickets are $49, which also includes your choice of a Market Series wine or a beer. For the little ones, they’ve got a $25 kids’ menu with chicken wings, roast potatoes, a drink and a scoop of gelato.

Lunch will be served in two sittings either at 11am or 1:30pm, but you’re more than welcome to settle in for the whole day. The barn will be warm and the wine will be flowing, making this ultimate winter activity well worth rugging up and heading out for.
