This wine was a heavy hitter! We decanted for 30 minutes and it was beautiful! We had this wine with spicy chicken lo mien as a pairing.
The wine boast of old vine zin with a touch of carignane for structure.
Tasting notes:
This power house was deep purple in color with a brickish rim.
It smells of blackberry sweet aged tobacco out of a can, bramble and wet moss.
It tastes of blackberry and raisins with a medium to long allspice/cinnamon finish.
It had a medium to full mouth fill with medium tannins.
I am shocked by how much the tannin’s where around on this wine , I have 2 more bottles that I will have to check in on in a couple years. It was an absolute banger!

What’s the abv on that? Haven’t had any of the early wines but Mike has talked in interviews I’ve heard about dialing back on ripeness and extraction over the years. (Obviously all in relative terms as his wines are reliably 15% or so these days.)
I’m a fan of aged “claret style” zins but haven’t thought of old Carlisle as fitting that mold. Wonder how it would compare.
