Amazing meal at Skof at the weekend
For those that have been to Adam Reid at The French, this does what they are missing. None of the stuffy atmosphere you get at The French due to the location, and some really good food
Stand out dishes
Obviously the lobster and scallop courses were amazing but the following really stood out to me
Hen of the Woods – I'm not a mushroom fan, and to be fair this was more miso than mushrooms. Crispy Hen of the Woods on top. Great depth of flavour
Confit chicken wings – amazing how much flavour this had
Duck – beautifully cooked, amazing sauce, great bread. Exactly what you want from this course
No bread course, bread was served twice during the meal, both times with dishes that you'd want to mop up the sauces
One of the dishes (scallops for me) was served kitchen side at a bench, and Tom Barnes (Executive Chef) talked you through the dish himself
Great service – I'm not a wine drinker, and they had 5 or 6 beers on offer. They were happy to recommend which ones at which point during the meal, so it became almost a beer pairing. All local beers (Track and Balance).
All in all, a great experience and great food. Highly recommended

I should add, the tiramisu at the end – the photo doesn’t do it justice. Served table side from a larger bowl, and a great sentimental story as to why they ended the meal with it
Have you been to Mana in Manchester? I loved it there and wondered how this compares as not made it to Skof yet.
Skof is fantastic. For my taste I’d argue it’s better than L’Enclume. Skof has the Rogan DNA running through the menu, but Tom adds his own personality which takes it up a notch for me.
How was the music?
Great to see they have decent beers available, I don’t really get wine and certainly don’t benefit from a ~£150 flight and I find it so frustrating that with so many great breweries doing interesting stuff that so many fine dining places still only offer a single generic brown ale or a larger.
Was recently in the hand and flowers which makes a little bit of a point of it being a pub not a pure restaurant and it turned out the beer selection was a couple of their ‘own’ brown ales and estrella on keg. To make it worse it turned out, to my horror, it’s owned by greene king so even the H&F own beer was just a GK bitter of some kind.
