  1. Cool. I’m curious to see if there’s a difference. Where did you get them?

Do these actually give any charcoal flavor?

  3. Let us know how your pellet grill handles them. I’ve read the auger can struggle with them.

Also let us know if they add a charcoal flavor.

I might buy a bag just yo use in a smoke tube. For when I want a different flavor.

They’re overrated in my opinion. I’ve gone through several bags cooking various things. I really wanted to notice the difference, but I personally didn’t. They also burn way hotter than you’d expect

Prepare for disappointment. They don’t impart charcoal flavor at all; may as well just use propane grill.

Fyi. GMG Daniel Boone pellet sensor did not like these, they are too dark so my bbq kept giving low pellet warning.

I thought they burned a little hotter than all wood pellets. I picked up several bags on clearance from Kroger (like $3 per bag).

Doing a cook of 100% charcoal pellets did not smoke as much and ran hotter. No major flavor difference one way or another. I ended up mixing them half/half with regular pellets. That stretched my pellets out about a year.

Personally run a mix of these and regular wood for grilling. Then use full wood for smoking.

Dont use em for taste, rather they seem to run hotter and used for searing.

  9. I found the royal oak pellets to burn faster and hotter. during the cook i had larger temp swings and after the cook i had more ash build up. I’m thinking they are not pressed as hard and maybe not as dense as other brands.

I prefer the pit boss brand charcoal pellets and use them quite often. I mix them with their competition blend pellets . I do 70/30 competition/charcoal mix and get great results.

They did nothing for me. I mixed what I had left with wood pellets just to burn them up.
