A driver reportedly fled the scene after crashing into Gusto Italian Kitchen + Wine Bar on Burnet Road early Sunday.

AUSTIN, Texas — Police have been unable to locate a driver accused of ramming their vehicle into an Italian restaurant in North Austin early Sunday morning.

According to the Austin Police Department (APD), the incident happened around 3:23 a.m. APD received a call about a vehicle that reportedly crashed into a building at 4800 Burnet Road, where Gusto Italian Kitchen + Wine Bar is located. 

Police said the caller reported the vehicle had also been speeding and driving “erratically” in the parking lot before the crash.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a large hole in the wall of the restaurant. 

Police said they determined there were no people inside Gusto after investigating the building and surrounding area. The vehicle was left at the scene, but police said “the driver was missing.”

Gusto said in a Facebook post that it is temporarily closed for repairs.
