I have been meaning to try this Italian restaurant in Shreveport for several months – actually, it’s already been well over a year since it opened.
Now I’m kicking myself that I didn’t discover Mama’s Italian House sooner.
I stopped in for lunch and was pleased to find first, an inviting atmosphere, and second, a lunch special with six entrée choices: fettuccini alfredo, baked ziti, ravioli, chicken parmesan with spaghetti, eggplant parmesan with spaghetti, and pasta with meatball, meat sauce, or sausage.
At Mama’s you order at the counter and take a number to your table and they will bring out your meal.
I asked for a taste of the red sauce before ordering and the staff kindly obliged. The red sauce at Mama’s Italian Kitchen passed my “it’s authentic and not too sweet” test. It is homemade slow-cooked marinara, rich in flavor.

I ordered the chicken parmesan which was perfectly thin and breaded and seasoned and juicy and covered in melted mozzarella cheese.
No wonder. I learned that it is made-to-order, battered and fried and baked and then served with a side of spaghetti.
A couple sitting next to me finished their meal and as they left, spoke to each other, “That was perfect,” and “Yes…roll me out of here.”
That’s about how I felt. Originally, I planned to eat only part of the entrée and take the rest home…
Each of the lunch entrees were $12.99 including a side salad and garlic bread.
It turns out the owner makes as much as she can from scratch, the waitress said, which includes salad dressings and the loaves of garlic bread.

I ordered bleu cheese dressing for my salad and it was a very delicious, creamy and mild version.
For the bread, the waitress said it takes the owner three hours “beginning-to-end” to make the bread.
At lunch you can also order off of the regular menu, which has additional entrée choices like lasagna and shrimp parmesan, appetizers like fried calamari and fried mushrooms, cold and hot sub sandwiches, and antipasto, Caesar, chef, and Greek salads.

I can’t wait to try a creamy sauce dish like fettuccini alfredo next time.
