With that said I’ve never had a tin of fish wife or whatever, so maybe I just need to try the good stuff to really say if this is worth it? Either way these go good on a sandwich or just with some cheese and crackers. Not too hot!

This brand is my least favorite. The texture is off putting to me. I’ve never had the hot sauce ones, so maybe they’re different.

Try the good stuff or at least the Costco options for a good value.

That said these hot sauce and mustard sauce are acceptable. The soy oil COS are nasty IMO

  3. Weak_Radish966

These are a fine budget option. I always have a few cans in stock as a backup.

I’ve never tried these, but before I got into tinned fish, I always had the Starkist tuna packets in my drawer at work. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the larger/budget brands if you like the taste of them! Good to have options up and down the price range!

Not for me. But for those who love them: I left them for you 🤣

Thing is that King Oscar is usually right next to it on the shelf and tend to be better.

This was my introduction to sardines when I was a kid with my grandmother. Chicken of the sea in mustard over rice. I enjoy them. Always affordable. Quick meal or snack option. Yes, there are better sardines. Great SHTF option or pantry option.

We like what we like….if a 99c a tin meets your needs, that’s excellent.

I like these, especially on crackers :).

I try to live by the maxim: Yuck No One’s Yum. I don’t always succeed, but today I will.

I have no issues with this brand. When you need some cheap protein, these are my go to.

I have eaten them and you can sometimes find them for just a dollar a tin. They are not terrible, but I find the ones packed in water to be a bit spongy. But if you go even to the $2.00 – $2.50 range, you can find brands that are far better and more interesting.

If you like sardines spicy (which I do!), you might try some brands that offer spiced sardines in olive oil, when I first tried them it was an absolute delight and I was hooked.

My “bargain basement” go to is kippered herrings by Brunswick or King Oscar. Those are also packed in water but come out more dense and solid in my experience.

+500 points for proper use of ‘cromulent.’

They are fine. My gateway deen for sure. Would take the plain ones and put them on a roaster biscuit with feta and balsamic glaze.

Other brands are a lot better but nowhere near as cheap. I’d probably buy them again in the future.

The Chicken of the Sea Mediterranean Style are actually really good.

It’s meh for me. I’m about to eat a can in a few minutes and I’m looking forward to swapping then out.

  17. MyNeighborThrowaway

I tried these first bc they’re usually on sale for a dollar but to me the extra dollar a tin for a slightly better brand is worth jt

I’ll eat them straight out of the tin with some real hot sauce. The stuff they’re packed with has pretty decent flavor but basically zero spice. I keep some in my backpack when traveling as an emergency snack. Some carrot sticks, crackers, and a can of deens makes a pretty decent lunch.

I’ve tried a fair amount of fancier sardines and I just vastly prefer these ones specifically. infinitely cheaper (I get them from the dollar store) and I prefer the lack of oil personally, really yummy! 🙂

  21. MRiley84

I’ve tried the more expensive ones and always go back to Chicken of the Sea. The more expensive ones tend to use bigger/better quality fish, and those have crunchy bits that are not a texture I want.

  22. Cromulent, indeed, yall. Embiggen your supply of these forthwith before they go the way of the orange mountain dew or coolest ranch doritos.

  23. StayBrightNeon

I like the hot sauce and plain olive oil ones. The rest don’t do it for me. But put either of those on some crackers or over noodles, and you’ve got yourself a tasty meal!

  24. taylorthestang

New word of the day: cromulent. Do not know what it means though.

And yeah shout out to chicken of the sea deens. They’re always there for me in my cupboard.

  25. SevenVeils0

I like the mustard sauce ones. I have a decent stockpile of sardines (etc) in varying degrees of quality and cost. I haven’t tried Fishwife, but I have Jose Gourmet, Matiz, Cole’s, Patagonia, Fangst, etc.

Mustard sauce- packed sardines are surprisingly uncommon, and adding my own mustard doesn’t taste the same.

  26. imselfinnit

What do I think? I think that I need to look up the word cromulent.

  27. crossjay42

This + kewpie & rice is such a good combo

  28. binkkit

If you like them, that’s all that matters! You’ll save a fortune over a lifetime compared to the high-end dine snobs.

  29. xXBern42Xx

They are what I call in Spanish ( bueno , bonito , barato ) the three B’s of satisfaction.

  30. Suspicious_Dust_6939

That’s the I get except in water

  31. Upper-Career9712

Lately mine have been super mushy with a lot of particles in the sauce? I think the fish are falling apart or something, there’s also a weird taste, and this has been happening to my last 10 cans from different groceries
