I'm a korean but I don't know the special taste of this. So I wonder how other people think about the flavor of sungyung.

This is one of the things I just haven’t come to enjoy. I feel like it’s such a waste of the nurungji which is yummiest when crispy!

I complain to my husband this is just dishwater ๐Ÿ˜‚ because it makes it easier for dishwashing.

I love it =) sorta like barely tea, but with rice instead

This used to be my favorite soup as a child. Taste similar to boricha, but more filling.

Edit: and Iโ€™m just learning that this is considered a tea but as a child, I always thought it was soup! ๐Ÿ˜‚

I havenโ€™t personally eaten it but would love to try it for experience. I only see it as a different kind of ochazuke but without seasoning? Basically water with cooked rice or tea with cooked rice, scorched rice. Not everyone likes it, but without knowing the history. This could also have been a traditional way of many things. โ€œFinish your dinner refreshinglyโ€, โ€œdonโ€™t have clean water all the time so enjoy some water with leftover scorched riceโ€, โ€œdonโ€™t waste riceโ€, โ€œhave some soupโ€, type of understanding.
