Saving ancient olive trees: Maison Brémond 1830 brings exclusive olive oil from Spain. (© )
For several years, Maison Brémond 1830 has been working with the organization _Act for Planet_ to preserve biodiversity and support initiatives to protect endangered crops.
In this context, Maison Brémond 1830 presents a special olive oil from Spain – produced in the small village of Oliete in the province of Aragón. This oil tells a story that raises awareness and sensitizes parents and children to ecological and social issues. More information at www.maisonbremond.de.
In order to preserve olive cultivation, create jobs and enable families to live in the village, the “Apadrina un Olivo” association launched the concept of sponsoring olive trees. Together with Act for Planet, Maison Brémond 1830 has adopted over a hundred olive trees in Oliete to support the local population and preserve the cultural and ecological heritage of this region.
About “Apadrina un Olivo”
Oliete, a small village with around 300 inhabitants between Madrid and Barcelona, has suffered from rural exodus for years. Thousands of centuries-old olive trees withered away as no one cared for them. In 2014, Oliete native Alberto Alfonso founded the NGO “Apadrina un Olivo” to save these trees – with great success: today, 7,000 olive trees have already been adopted, 14 jobs have been created and a new oil mill has been built.
Maison Brémond 1830 has been part of this initiative since 2020 and has adopted 239 olive trees so far. For the 2022 harvest alone, 1,350 liters of olive oil were selected from Oliete, enabling 1,071 hours of work for disadvantaged communities.
Empeltre – one of the oldest olive varieties in Spain
Oliete olive oil is made from Empeltre olives – a robust, drought-resistant variety that is mainly native to the Balearic Islands and Aragón. The name is derived from the Catalan word “empelt” (graft), as these trees need to be grafted regularly to ensure their development and yields.
The result is a mildly fruity oil with delicate aromas of red fruits, juicy apples, strawberries and floral notes.
Passing on sustainability – to the next generation
With an illustration by artist Nadette Baussan showing children playing among the olive trees of Oliete, Maison Brémond 1830 aims to highlight the importance of such a commitment. Because only if these values are passed on to the next generation can success be ensured in the long term.
Gourmets can now buy this special olive oil from Spain in the Maison Brémond 1830 store in Munich or online: www.maisonbremond.de/collections/olivenoel-kaufen
