PORTLAND, Maine (WGME) — Several hundred Mainers jammed their kids, parents, and grandparents into Federal Street between India and Hampshire—in Portland’s Italian neighborhood—for the Italian Bazaar by St Peter’s Parish.

This was the 100th anniversary of the celebration which featured several food stands selling pasta dishes and cannolis.

There were games for the kids and even some low-stakes gambling for the grown-ups.

Phoebe Parker came with two friends, one of whom intended to get her face painted.

“That was my friend Ada’s idea here. We decided to come down today to the festival, and we just got here. She won a couple of prizes, saw the face painting, and she said, ‘I wanna do that.’”

The day marks the Feast Day of Saint Rocco. Proceeds from the games and booths go to benefit St Peter’s Parish.

WGME photojournalist Monty Orrick took in the festivities and brought back this story.
