Those are dollar store sardines. When I go low class, which is usually, I eat Chicken of the Sea smoked sardines in oil. I occasionally splurge for the Nuri or KO in tomato sauce.

I’ve tried the hot sauce, mustard and plain in-water ones. The hot sauce ones being the most palatable, mustard second and plain in-water ones I ended up feeding to my dog as a breakfast treats. She loves them 😝

I’ve never gotten sick from them but I find the mushy Sardines like Beach Cliff, and Chicken of the Sea off-putting. I’ve had good luck with Wal-Mart’s Great Value. And Polar are often cheap but good.

I think that as with all sardines, it depends on how you serve them. Am I going to eat Beach Cliff fish straight out and lick the tin after? No way. But if you hand me a can and say “Make me lunch,” imma toast a nutty whole grain slice of bread, spread it with avocado, tomato and onions, and top it with chopped up Beach Cliff fish. Heaven for, like, $1.25.
