Midye is one of Turkey’s most beloved street snacks — black mussels either stuffed with spicy moist rice (dolma) or deep-fried (tava), always eaten with a splash of lemon.

At Kadıköy Midiyecisi in Istanbul, you’ll see how midye dolma (classic stuffed mussels with sauce, called soslu midye) are opened and served;
One is scooped from the bottom like a spoon, lemon is squeezed on top, and it’s eaten in a single bite;
Then, midye tava (deep-fried mussels) are prepared and served;
At the end, a fish wrap is served that looks and feels like the spicy dürüms of Karaköy, full of seasoning and pomegranate sauce.
