Hi!
I am currently staying at the Garda Lake in Italy with my fiancée. We have visited Villa Calicantus and also plan on visiting dei Frati.
I went to a nearby supermarket to try some Italian sparkling and white wines, but I was a bit overwhelmed by the broad selection. Do you have any recommendations from the pictures above?
I know very little about Italian wine in general, so if any of the wines are good representations of their grape or area, then that might be a good way to learn a little. I normally drink mostly German wine (riesling, spätburgunder, weißburgunder, etc)

Pieropan Soave Classico is an easy go to
I have a bottle of that Franciacorta in my fridge.!
Here are some items on my bucket list:
A Franciacorta
Any sparkling with long time on the lees
A good Pinot Grigio
Sicilian white
Mattiavezola! Their winery is on the West side of the lake if you fancy a visit. Great wine.
Oh come on, you people really know these individual wine houses?! That is ridiculous, not even local Italians know that…
OP: buy some nice wines from local varieties between €10-€20 a bottle. More than €20 is paying for the marketing. I can recommend perhaps some DOCG Prosecco o Franciacorta. Oh and don’t forget to raid the ham & cheese section!
Berlucchi all day. They are the originators in the region back in 1961 and it’s still family owned. Phenomenal farming as well. Go for the dosage zero for a really racy, leaner bubbles or do the Saten for a creamier texture.
Contadi Costaldi Brut
It’s a traditional method from Chardonnay, Pinot noir, Pinot Blanc, and Erbamat.
I like it
Maybe a little Analcolico to spice things up!
Ca’dei frati Lugano is a great wine. Good acid and a lot of stone fruit.
The only great Sicilian wine I see here is the Ben Rye in the sweet section (passito).
I think Vermentino is criminally underrated by most people
That Arangosta (not the frizzante) Vermentino di Sardegna for EUR 4 is a pretty good choice honestly
Feudi di San Gregorio Flanghina!
