This piece seems to have the second hole in the wrong place? It’s an official BGE thermometer and I’m struggling to figure this out. Should I drill a new hole? Weird

Put that clip inside the egg and poke the thermometer down into one of those holes. The tension will keep it in place. Agree it could be a better design.

You pinch it, and then insert. That clip that goes on the inside is what I clip my big green egg fan to. Both temps read the same temp.

Its definitely in the wrong place.
You should be able to thread the thermometer thru the 2 holes.

Looks like a manufacturing defect. Take it to the dealer you bought your egg from and see if they would swap it out with one that has the holes in the correct locations.

Holes are definitely wrong. I looked at mine and the hole closest to us in the first pic is right, but there should be another hole straight down from that in the curved part going down towards your thumb.

Don’t worry about installing it at all. The clip is absolutely useless, the thermometer will stay in place because of gravity.

I’d consider an upgrade to the pro temp s1 from Chefs Temp. Game changer and WAY more accurate. My BGE one was not evem close to properly calibrated out of the box. So at least also check that
