I think there are recipes around the world that use stale bread as thickner for soup or sauce. And if you added some eggs, you could have made savory bread pudding too!

    It’s pretty popular idea here.

It was pretty popular and maybe it is still pretty popular.

There is a version with water for milk.

Most of the time you should add honey/sugar to it if you are a kid but in general why to bother if you are an adult.

[edit] dinner sounds pretty sad in this context. I’m more 1 pot of soup from breakfest till supper guy ;-). <- kinda not the pot size on the picture

Add egg and sugar and pop in the oven.

I do this pretty often just with added cinnamon sugar or cocoa powder

Pobs! Not thought about that in years, but I’m sure I had it as a small child in the North of England

Wait wait wait! Before I tell you that that’s exactly what my grandmother used to make for the cats, I need to tell you about the Hungarian dish “Mákosguba”!

Basically what you already have there, except the bread needs to be a dry, dipped in boiled milk with sugar, and then strew some poppy seeds on it! It’s actually quite good, and you’re halfway there!

For now though, I’m having flashbacks to the old iron pans the cats used to eat out of at the village.

Add sugar and eggs, throw it in the oven and you’ve got something delicious

Did Goldilocks sleep in your bed or was it not to her liking? Because this looks like a meal for a cute cartoon bear and I cannot explain why.

If you blend it up with some sugar and fry it you have pancakes, seriously, though you might need an egg for that. If you add an egg as is you have French toast, which is literally made from stale bread soaked in an egg milk mixture and fried.

But milk toast is what you have.

Add some sugar and cinnamon and you got yourself sspmething quite tasty.

I remember having this when I was little. Poor family. Not much money at the time, had to make do.
    😳

I eat it from time to time, stale bread soaks in the milk better and you sprinkle some sugar on top. Stale bread is used like this or french toast since it will soak up eggs better than fresh bread too.

You eat like my grandma did when she had 11 siblings living in a 2 room shack in 1945

Reminds me of when I was in the gulag.

My grandma used to make this with what I can only imagine was a buttload of sugar, and served it to us as a treat. Planning to get an artful version tattooed on me soon

This is what he eats in The Metamorphosis. At least, it’s what the mom slides under the door for him to eat.

  20. Add sugar and ground poppy seeds and you’ve got yourself a Hungarian dessert.
