Honestly, I really dont get the hype of this AARDVARK Habanero hot sauce….i see everyone on here and r/spicy talk so highly of it, but its ALRIGHT at best. Its got a mildly sweet taste with a good kick of habanero and thats it. I dont know…Its good nonetheless but nothing to WoW about.

It’s okay. Nothing more nothing less. Since I’ve gotten access to Mexican hot sauces (not to sound special, pretty sure you can easily order them on Amazon), I haven’t looked back. La Perrona red and Salsas Orientales green are my go to. Plus they’re cheap af.

  2. KiwiMcG

I haven’t had the habanero in a long time, but I have an opened bottle of the Serrano and it’s damn good.

  3. RippingLegos__

Not good, relative to any other decent hab.

  4. the_oc_brain

It’s fine. That’s about it. Oregonians are really proud of it though.

    Y’all, check out island treasure.

I think people compare it to a vinegary fermented sauce which it isn’t. And so the comparison isn’t warranted .It’s more like a salsa. In that case I think it works when you want a sauce with more body than just some dashes of something vinegary. But also don’t want to put a bunch of wet salsa on whatever .But that’s me

  7. soundeng

I think it’s amazing. Have gone through 2-3 bottles while still nursing a half full 2006 Tabasco. To each their own.

  8. medkitjohnson

Is it great? No… is it bad? No. I loved it when I made tacos honestly, its got a really good kick for me while still giving some flavor.

  9. Try it on a sandwich. For me, it has a flavor profile that screams sandwich sauce to me 🤤

  10. icemountainisnextome

I put it on my egg sausage bacon burritos every morning. I love it

  11. killen_time

It’s really good in soup that needs a bit of punching up

  12. rojo7777

Its my favorite hot sauce for chicken strips

  13. Old_Benefit1238

Does your mouth work? It’s not very hot, but it is delicious.

  14. wandero

What did you eat it with? Certain hot sauces complement only some types of food

I like it a lot because it’s very versatile while having it’s own fairly unique taste and texture combo, which means it’s both really useful and interesting at the same time. It’s very good at being a basic “put on anything” sauce, and it’s delicious imo.

That said, it’s very much a condiment that’s meant to be used in abundance. It’s not very hot, not very exotic, and despite seemingly tasting very good to most, it’s not going to be anything to rave about for some people just due to it being pretty simple. I think they have good marketing, and that’s part of it, but it’s definitely well-made by my standards.

  16. HoochShippe

I agree, I’m all for Melinda’s Ghost pepper Wing Sauce .

  17. Schlarkin

I absolutely love it. It has such a unique flavor. This and the Queen’s Majesty Habanero and black coffee are my two favorites at the moment.

  18. mugumbo1531

I think for a lot of people I’m sure it’s nostalgia. A lot of people in pacific north west have this on the table all their resteraunts .

I personally love it. And of their variants I think this is the best one they make.

  19. I think their Scorpion is 10X better. Similar tomato base but better heat and flavour.

  20. Ok_Orchid1004

People in this sub are just goofy about hot sauce in general. I don’t think there’s ever been one sauce ever posted in this sub where 100% of every single person responding thought was no good. In other words, everybody’s got an opinion. So it doesn’t really matter, eat what you like.

  21. Xdaz1019

I like it on sammiches and tacos. Things where I want some spice and nice pepper flavor But if I’m hoping to burn my mouth out and forget things other than pain exist I have some heartbreaking dawn’s cauterized for that

  22. Deathengine

    It’s fine. A good sauce, but I agree that it isn’t hype-worthy.

  23. Happyginger

i like this one it’s good on just about everything and it’s got a good flavor which is something i look forward to in a sauce

  24. arrrValue

Me either. This stuff is fucking wack.

  25. sprawlaholic

I didn’t either, tasted it once and never opened the bottle again.

I just had an epiphany about this the other day: Aardvark is more like a salsa than a hot sauce. You can’t really compare it to a liquidy vinegar-based hot sauce. I can’t explain why I prefer it to most other hot sauces, but I do. I used it on most things, but not everything. Mac & cheese for example – no bueno. For that I reach for a more traditional liquid hot sauce. I like it on eggs, in burritos, I’ll eat it on chips, and may other things.

I dislike most of the hot sauces here that are very popular. So I think something acidic by less vinegary, with tomato, and a good pepper flavor is what I’m after.

My favorite pepper sauce is made by a friend’s dad. It was made by his grandmother before that. They are both mexican and they refer to this sauce as “chili.” It’s somewhere between a hot sauce and where Aardvark is: I believe it has peppers, onion, garlic, and multiple kinds of peppers, usually roasted. Not sure what other seasonings.

  27. Username_de_random

Absolutely phenomenal on tacos/burritos and I use it for nothing else

  28. BreakfastTequila

I didn’t know it was ever hyped. I always enjoyed it because it was a special treat when the diners I frequented had anything other than Tabasco

  29. Cremonster

I think it’s great on eggs and that’s just about it lol

  30. chococaliber

Bro hear me out. Instead of ketchup on a hot dog.

  31. Different_Phrase8781

Then it’s not for you boss! Plenty of other hot sauces out there. I use aardvark on eggs, potatoes, breakfast foods. It does great on some other things but it’s all about your specific taste lol

  32. liketosaysalsa

For me it’s an excellent breakfast sauce.

Also love it on a glizzy.

  33. NormalAssistance9402

Maybe it just seems like everyone is hyping it up because everyone agrees that it’s good

  34. Dandw12786

So it’s different than most hot sauces in that it’s tomato based. So like, if you’re gonna have a hot dog or something, you use this instead of (or in addition to) ketchup. Or pizza, it’s so good on pizza.

  35. LazyOldCat

If it was 1/4 the price I’d like it a lot more.

  36. oscarq0727

Sounds like it has more to do with your expectations than the actual quality of the sauce (price is also a little steep).

  37. Dear-Smile

I love this stuff but but I wish it wasn’t sold in a plastic bottle

  38. Paghk_the_Stupendous

I thought it was okay, maybe good. Haven’t bought it again.

I just bought like a half gallon container of Weak Knees, it’s my new favorite. Super super good on cottage cheese which I did NOT expect. Goes on basically everything.

  39. ajneuman_pdx

For me it’s local and the owner shows up at local events and charity events and she’s super nice. It’s not the hottest but I think it has great flavor and it’s a good everyday sauce that goes well with lots of foods.

  40. Mindless_Win4468

I still have never had it but that label goes so hard

  41. AVeryHeavyBurtation

It’s one of my faves! I really like tomatoes. I got a gallon of it once. My mouth is watering just thinking about it haha.

  42. shiftteam831

It’s like a salsa hot sauce hybrid, if you don’t like tomato or salsa it won’t be your thing. For me, it’s a permanent staple in my pantry and a favorite for anything breakfast, Mexican, eggs, etc

  43. HighSolstice

I wish I liked it because it’s made in my region but I just don’t, there’s many other sauces I would prefer. That said, their Drunken Garlic sauce is pretty bangin’ in a batch of egg rolls and the Drunken Jerk is an excellent marinade.
