Today I’m putting two celebrities to the test. I’m making Haley Bieber’s chicken wings and Gigi Hadid’s vodka spicy pasta. These recipes went viral a few years ago. I thought it’d be fun to try them out and see who the best recipe developer is. We shall see. I know they’re two completely different recipes, but whatever. We’re still going to put them to the test. I’m going to start first with Haley’s air fryer chicken wings, and then we’re going to do the vodka pasta last. Okay, let’s suit up. I don’t want to spill on myself cuz everything we’re making today is messy. We don’t like grease stains on our clothes. I have all of my chicken wing stuff prepped out. And these chicken wings require an air fryer. So, thank goodness I have my college air fryer still. Love this air fryer. Me and this air fryer go way back. It’s honestly kind of broken, but it still works. There’s just some missing parts. These chicken wings have to marinate in advance in buttermilk in spices. So, I did that. I’m not going to show you guys how to do that because it was literally so easy. I have my chicken that is marinated for 2 hours. Now, we’re going to put it together. You have to do an egg wash, a flour mixture dippydoo situation. So, we’re going to season our flour mixture. I’m going to use the same spices that I put in the marinade. Some of this Bragg seasoning, 24 spices. going to do some garlic powder, some onion powder, and then I’m going to do kosher salt and pepper. I’m going to do a little mixydoo. Okay, we got our flour stuff ready, and then we’re going to make our egg station. So, in her video of her making these chicken wings, she just has a classic breading station. So, that’s what I have here. And I want to point this out that I’ve never made these before, so I have no idea how this is going to go. I’ve never made either of these recipes before. This is a true test. I’m going to take each chicken wing, going to take it out of the brine, dip it in the egg wash stuff, and dip it into the flour. Oh, this is just a flour corn starch mixture. And she says in her video that the cornstarch is what makes the wings crunchy. So, just egg wash it, flour it. And I’m just going to do this to every single wing. And I’m so excited to see how these cook in the air fryer. I rarely use my air fryer. I only use it in the morning when I’m like cooking sausages or something. And that’s pretty much it. Haley kind of stopped making her cooking videos. I wonder why. Maybe cuz she had a baby. That’ll do it. because they weren’t bad. Her recipes that she posted were pretty pretty good. I’ve actually never made chicken wings before, so this is a first for me, too. They don’t teach you how to make chicken wings in French culinary schools. So, chicken is breaded. Now, I’m just going to grease them a little bit with some olive oil. She uses just olive oil spray, but my olive oil spray broke this morning. So, we’re just going to use a little squeeze bottle method. I’m going to have to do these in batches cuz this is tiny. though. I just realized that this is going to take longer than I thought. And we have lots of chicken. Let’s do this. Chicken in the air fryer. Since this is such a small batch, I’m going to do these and then put them in my warming oven and then do another batch. So, I have my air fryer. Going to put this in. Set the temperature to 380 for 20 minutes. Now, we wait. While the chicken wings are doing their thing, I’m going to prep the onion and garlic for the pasta. It calls for either a white onion or a shallot. And I think shallots taste better in pastas. So, we’re going to use a shallot. Slice it up in little slices. Okay, shallot is cut. Let’s put it in the bowl. Let’s do the garlic. I got a fun contraption when I was in New Zealand. I got this garlic press in the this fancy cutest little store called I think it was called Made In. I think it was called Made In. I could be I could be saying something wrong, but I got this in the little chef store that was in there. You put the garlic down and then you use the little press to mince it. I just think it’s satisfying. It’s like playing with Play-Doh. And then the only trick is is getting it out. It’s kind of hard. It’s just fun. It is a pain in the ass to clean out, though. Now, I’m just going to open up our tomato paste. I’m showing you this because I have a really nice can opener that I want everyone to see. Put it at the top. It’s not your regular can opener. Lock it in. Twist and it pops right off. And there’s no sharp edges. Danger eliminated. We got a little bit of a lull while the chicken wings are cooking. So, my mom went for a drink run. I live in Utah and this is the land of soda shops. So, she went to a soda shop and I got the most iconic drink you can get, which is Dr. Pepper and coconut syrup. This is diet Dr. pepper and sugar-free coconut syrup because I’m not going to I’m not going to drink my calories unless it’s alcohol. Let’s do a taste test. Good, but not the best that I’ve had, which is crazy cuz how can you f this up? The reason why I got this off-brand soda is because Swig, the local place in town, isn’t open on Sundays and today is a Sunday. So, we had to go to an off-brand place. Timer just went off. Let’s see how these look. They look great. You can you can feel the crispiness. We’re moving on to Gigi’s pasta. It says to sauté the garlic and onion. A/2 cup of olive oil. Let it heat up. Got our shallot and garlic. The pan’s all heated up. Let’s Let’s get things going. It’s crunch time. Ooh, this is beautiful. As I’m reading this recipe, it says cook the shallot, sauté for 2 to 3 minutes, and then going to add the tomato paste. And it says to caramelize the tomato paste, which I I’ve never heard of that term before. I’m going to smell like onions and garlic for probably 3 days after I’m done making this recipe. Have my boiling water over here. I’m going to salt it with like a a fistful of salt. That’s what you’re You want it to be salty like the ocean. So, I’m actually going to put more in. Put a lot of salt in there. And then I have a really nice brand of pasta. I’m sure Gigi has a really nice brand of pasta that she uses. Montabelloo certified organic slow dried pasta. Time for the main attraction. We’re going to add our vodka to the tomato paste. It’s splattered everywhere just really. I love that for me. I love making messes. So, let’s let that cook out. It smells like Vegas now. Love the smell of vodka. Now, it’s cooking in. It smells good, actually. Now, okay, now it’s time to put the cream in. Ooh, this is pretty. Wow. Now, we’re going to add some red pepper flakes. We’re not going to do a lot cuz red pepper flakes can kill you. Let’s just do like that and then let’s cook this for couple minutes and then wait for our pasta to be done. We’ll transfer the pasta into the sauce and we’ll be in business. So, I got my pasta strainer. I’m just going to do in batches the pasta into the sauce. Just mix. So, I’m going to put our grated parmesan in. And then, this is a little hack. Put some butter in your pasta. Gigi knows what she’s doing with pasta. She knows the restaurant hacks. Gorgeous. Oops. We’re going to have a really awesome clean up later. So, the pasta’s done, but the chicken wings aren’t. So, I have pasta water saved. I’m just going to let this sit on low until the chicken wings are all done and we’re ready to eat. And then I’ll re- refresh the pasta with the water and it will loosen up again. Back with the chicken wings are all done cooking. I’m just going to slice up some of the scallion just for a topping. Just thin slices. It adds a pop of green. The wings have been keeping warm. I got my bowl. I’m just going to toss them in here. It’s time to make her special sauce. She uses this Japanese barbecue sauce. I’ve actually never had this before, so but I’ve seen it everywhere, so it must be good. And then she does honey, some Sriracha, little bit of cayenne. I’m just going to do a pinch cuz that’s what she did in the video. So now we’re going to mix them up. This is how she mixes them up in the video. I’m making a big old mess. They smell very good. Let’s put the green onion on top. The wings are done. It’s time to plate. We got our pasta. I’m going to put it on our cute little plate. Top it off with some parmesan. Add a cute little basil leaf. And we’re going to put our chicken wings. Chicken wings and pasta. The main food groups. Moment of truth. Time to taste test both dishes. That is so good. It’s not very spicy, which probably is my fault cuz I didn’t put all the the red pepper flakes in that I was supposed to. But great flavor. Love it. I want to say that both of these recipes were really easy to make. If I were to just make one of them, it probably would have only taken me 30 minutes. And now I’m really excited to try these chicken wings. You hear that? They’re so crunchy. M. They’re so crunchy it kind of hurts going down. So good. Honestly, this is probably one of the best chicken wings I’ve had. I’d have to say this is probably my favorite. It’s so different. I’ve never had a chicken wing this crunchy. But the pasta was good.
