Recently ate at Jônt in Washington, DC. Overall, we had a great experience and thought the food was extremely flavorful and well done. One quick note but I thought the service was fine, but not up to standards for a 2 star. One thing in particular was there were frequently wine glasses that were near empty and/or that I had not touched in 20+ minutes that remained on the counter. Additionally, any minor spills of water or sauce I made were left on the counter for quite a while. Nothing about the service was off putting but certainly not up to the standard IMO.
The vibe is something people like to hate on for Jônt. I personally loved the more modern young music and laid back feel despite the high end culinary offerings.
As for food. The starting bites were excellent, although admittedly I tend to always love the amuse bouche. The Wagyu tongue was also great. I thought the quail was good but nothing special and was a slight let down as there were back to back quail courses framed as our main course. The biggest highlight of the night was the dessert. It was easily the best selection of desserts I have ever had and I would happily go back again just for the desserts.
Overall, I think Jônt is solidly ** but I do not see the *** hype some on this sub Reddit have called for.

Are most of the ingredients sourced from Japan?
Good write-up. The price tag has always dissuaded us for years but we just spent a ton at Reverie this week (and loved it), so I guess it’s par for the course. The vibe you mentioned was very similar to most starred restaurants in DC it seems despite the stuffy atmosphere folks still seem to think the town has.
Food looks great but sucks to hear the service was disappointing.
The music when we visited Spring 2025 was early 2000s hip hop. Not classical although not really young music either.
Food was amazing and I think they deserve a certain level of hype.
I don’t do much fine dining but I find that the staff will leave unfinished drinks around for a long time, even if there are 3 in front of you. I don’t know what the rule is, but when they bring the next drink, I take it as a sign to finish the previous one.
Were you there on Thursday night? I was also there when the HVAC was down and found the restaurant very warm. Nothing the staff could have done about it but didn’t enjoy sweating through my meal. I thought the food was great!
