Is this ok to eat? Never seen salmon like this. It tasted fine just thrown off by how big the white stripes are

I think it’s just fatty. Yummy to me tho

  2. Mechanical-Bees

Typically only farmed salmon is used in sushi, farmed salmon is much more fatty than wild salmon. What you are seeing is high fat content salmon

You just got some fatty pieces. Looks perfectly fine to me.

  4. ineedpieandadvice

    That salmon looks perfect
    -signed pregnant and missing sushi

Maybe a hot take but I eat a lot of sushi in both Japan and the US, and I prefer salmon in the US over Japan because I like the buttery taste and texture of the farmed salmon with the thick fat marbling.

    Genuinely serious question:
did you wait for some random guy on reddit to tell you if the salmon looked ok or not ?!?!

  7. Mister_Pibbs

I like how you asked if it was ok to eat then followed by saying it tasted fine lmao

They were huge a couple of years ago…

  9. I’m curious what you view as potentially unsafe, and what your theory is on what’s happening here.

  10. AlaskanBuffalo

It’s farmed salmon. The high fat content and orange color are typical of farmed salmon. Nothing to worry about, enjoy!

Fatty belly is the best cut. You pay a premium for it when used for sushi.

  12. SharkWeekJunkie

Very very normal looking sushi right there.

  13. IAmA_talking_cat_AMA

Absolutely inedible. Please send them over to me so that I can safely dispose of them for you.

  14. OldChairmanMiao

It’s fat. Generally means it’s meat from closer to the belly.

You’ll see this on tuna as well, where toro is considered more luxurious.

The purists of salmon might want it to have as little white as possible, but, yes, for me and others, it really is the good stuff 🙂 That’s why I prefer salmon belly over regular salmon. There’s more flavor with the white stuff.

  16. RaidriConchobair

The white part is just fat, wild salmon doesnt have it because it is more trained? The thick white stripes are typical of farmed salmon

  17. White Strips are composed of omega-3 fatty acids. Typically, the more fatty, the more expensive the fish cut. Salmon cuts near the belly is the best.

  18. plantgirl7

Just a well marbled piece, probably cut from the belly. People pay extra for that

  19. AccomplishedCow8843

Send it to me, gonna swallow that thing in a take

  20. Dummy_Ren

Bros out here fat shaming that salmon postmortem

  21. pzones4everyone

The white of the top pieces are cream cheese

  22. Jedijake_1

Salmon is fine that’s fat it tastes good. But it was a cheap cut from the abdomen that you wouldn’t be served in a restaurant. What’s worse is the wrap? Terible tecneque like was it their first time? Or did you make this at home? I would send it back if I was paying.

  23. LegitimateOil1989

Fish was packin curves! That’s the good marbled stuff. Salmon belly maybe?

  24. Important_Bullfrog15

Bro that’s the best piece you could get

  25. Initial-Session2086

Asking “Is it edible” because the white stripes are bigger than you’re used to Jesus fucking christ

  26. FidgetsAndFish

No, give it to me immediately for disposal, and pass the soy sauce.

  27. Queasy_Profit_9246

You should google salmon toro. That’s what you want, those fat lines are the flavour.

  28. Pund3rful

That’s the good fatty stuff. Just make sure it doesn’t smell funny or peppery.

  29. This-Necessary-5119

The Salmon is fine. Good even.

I agree about the White Stripes though. Personally, I never really understood the widespread appeal of their music

  30. Chemical_Economy_933

I’m also thrown off by how big the white stripes are.

    I mean, it’s just a guitarist and a drummer!

  31. UncleBenji

You want to see the white lines. If they’re pink or you can’t see them at all then the fish has been injected with dye to make it look more fresh/appealing.
