Does Fishwife live up to the hype or is it the Graza Olive Oil of tinned fish?

They’re good, but you can get better for like half the price.

They are very marketing driven. This means high prices and decent but not exceptional quality. Some people really like one or two of their sauces. If you like one and see it on sale stock up.

I have had a few tins… it’s fine but the quality doesn’t feel commensurate with the price. I was expecting more than I got, for sure.

Overhyped. Wait for sales. Don’t waste your money otherwise.

I haven’t had the anchovies. The smoked salmon with chili crisp was definitely remarkable (still not worth the price), but the sardines and mackerel were mundane. Tbh, the best part of the salmon was the seasoning. I should probably buy and try the fly by jing chili crisp that is used.

It’s the Grey Goose of fish in a can.
Yeah, it’s good, but at this point you’re paying for the name.

I’ve never tried any of the Fishwife stuff. I’ve been eating tinned seafood as a random snack since I was a teenager (30+ years ago). Yes I’m old. None of the Fishwife marketing or tin descriptions have appealed to me for the price (shipped) compared to what’s in my regular rotation. That being said, I’ve slammed several other “high dollar” tins in the past year and thoroughly enjoyed them. If Fishwife is canning something that sounds good to you, buy it and try it. It’ll probably be a solid product. I’ll definitely try some Fishwife stuff when/if I see it locally. But I also have no issues with Graza olive oil. YMMV. Bottom line is that it’s just tinned fish or olive oil in a plastic squeeze bottle. Just trying it is half the fun. I’m just as happy eating Wild Planet deenz from Costco. I’d say every pricier tin I’ve had has been enjoyable with no disappointment.

I could be wrong but I believe for many of their products they quite literally take other canneries’ tins and sell them under their name with a huge markup. You are functionally paying for the fancy box. They have good stuff but I believe some people have found the exact same tin they are selling under the original brand or a different brand and you get the same taste for much cheaper.

I love the smoked salmon and really like the anchovies. Everything else is average, given the price. Edit to add: I haven’t tried any of the spicy products yet, which I’ve heard are good. I have a few waiting in my pantry for the mood to strike.
