Cheese and butter production higher in June
The USDA says cheese and butter production levels were higher for June but down from the prior month as supplies remain tight.
Total cheese production was more than 1.2 billion pounds, a rise of more than four percent from last year but nearly four percent below the prior month. Italian cheese production increased five percent on the year, but declined 2.5 percent from May, while American cheese increased almost five percent from 2024 but declined seven percent on the month.
Butter production totaled 785 million pounds, nearly 10.5 percent above the prior year but down 12.5 percent from the last month.
Nonfat dry milk increased nearly 10 percent from 2024, while skim milk powder was down almost 22 percent.
Dry whey production was fractionally higher, while lactose increased by nearly five percent on the year.
