According to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE), Portugal registered historic results in agricultural production in 2024, with olive oil reaching its second-highest output ever and almond production hitting a new national record.

The country produced 180,000 tonnes of olive oil, the second-largest harvest ever recorded, driven largely by the maturity of intensive olive groves in the Alentejo region. Meanwhile, almond production soared to 91,000 tonnes, setting an all-time national record and cementing Portugal’s position as the second-largest almond producer in the European Union.

However, the Agricultural Statistics 2024 from the INE registered a notable decline in the national grape harvest, with production dropping by 8.1 percent compared to the previous year, mainly due to disease outbreaks and extreme weather conditions, which disrupted the viticulture sector.
