A PIZZERIA chain has become the latest to file for bankruptcy in a US state, leaving just 13 locations behind.

The chain has struggled in recent years, having filed twice before since 2018.

Bertucci’s has just closed its last location in the state of Connecticut, located on Main Street in Glastonbury.

The Glastonbury location has been removed from the Bertucci’s website, and if you try to call, all you will get is a voicemail.

The voicemail says: “Unfortunately this location has permanently closed.

“We would like to thank you all of our loyal customers for their patronage over the years.”

The Italian food chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy for the third time back in April, following separate filings in 2018 and 2022.

As a result, Bertucci’s closed down 30% of its locations earlier this year.

This has left Massachusetts as the closest place that diners can find Bertucci’s restaurants.

Bertucci’s has 10 locations in Massachusetts, and one each in Pennsylvania, Delaware and Virginia.

The chain said in a statement when it filed in April: “On April 24, 2025, Bertucci’s filed bankruptcy with the goal of promptly reorganizing its business for a sustainable and successful future.

“Consistent with numerous other recent restaurant brand bankruptcies, consumer demand has shifted away from legacy casual-dining brands.”

The company further cited common issues such as rising costs and a tougher economy

A CBS report states that Bertucci’s listed its assets and liabilities between $10 million and $50 million.

BERTUCCI’S CLOSURES

After filing for bankruptcy, Betucci’s was forced to close 30% of its restaurants.

This year, the chain closed spots in Braintree, Mansfield, North Andover, and Norwood.

BRANDS HARD HIT BY BANKRUPTCIES

Many chains have struggled to adapt to a post-Covid retail landscape, with several companies filing for bankruptcy

When Bertucci’s first filed for bankruptcy in 2018, it slashed its restaurant count from 56 down to 28.

The second bankruptcy in 2022 came after sustained pressure from the pandemic.

When filing in April, Bertucci’s had 15 locations instead of 13 today, including the one in Glastonbury, Connecticut.

Despite all of these closures, the chain had previously issued a message of defiance to diners.

The company said: “The Bertucci’s you know and love is here to stay as well, just with a few less locations for now.”

Bertucci’s had also stressed, before the Connecticut closure, that all remaining restaurants were profitable.

It is unknown if further closures will happen as a result of the third bankruptcy.
