It seems very wasteful to have basically an inch of all the noodles cut off

Small portion of cold noodles on an ice bowl is not the worst tbh.the plate is utility by design.

  3. Over the top? Yes. But it serves a purpose and the iceblock bowl is on a plate. So I wouldn’t complain at this one.

If I want a 2nd serving, do I have to wait for them to carve another bowl?

Not gonna lie, cold noodles sounds pretty gross!

I can see that this could be in r/StupidFood because it is pointless and wasteful but it seems a bit out of place here. The ice bowl is basically identical to a glass bowl so far as eating the dish is concerned.

  7. 100% just need a silicon mould to make those ice bowls.

I lived in tokyo 8 years. My japanese wife, love them in the summer. My white ass hated this shit. I always thought it was slimy, cold, and laking good flavor. If I want something cold, I’d rather have ice cream or a cold drink. Not my main dish.

Well cold pizza is ok or deli sandwiches. Hell even rice balls. Noodle is a hard no.

I feel like you need to grow up with a to enjoy it.

Tbf. That looks awesome, there’s no cleanliness factor like a wood board trapping germs, you’ll finish the bite before it melts and there’s a plate underneath.

Guy spent twenty minutes carving an ice bowl so people can eat one bite of noodles and be done with it

All that for something I could eat in 1 to 2 bites. At least make it a proper serving!

I don’t like the colour of those nooodles 🫤

Some of you in this sub can’t tell the difference between a forced trip to flavor town and artisan food that’s exciting. It’s a result of never having eaten anything that isn’t chipotle style bowl slop

  14. not the worst reason i’ve seen someone drill a hole in a block of ice

This is what Barney’s GF meant to order at Moe’s.

Insane amount of work for something I will inhale in a minute tops

This looks awesome to me! Love cold noodles and the broth looks well-made.

A little high-effort for the portion, but if I’m already signed up for a high-end Japanese meal it doesn’t seem out of place.

Absolutely visually stunning. I love this.

God, I hate watching these kinds of videos. Just show me the finished product already. I couldn’t care less how it was made.

  20. Prevents customers eating too slowly otherwise they’ll end up with a lap full of water, genius

My first day in Japan last year I ended up ordering the cold summer ramen for lunch as I was hugely flagging in the heat. It was very bizarre to have all the normal flavour profiles of a pork ramen, but just ice cold. Really expected a bigger different in taste but yeah, cold ramen is just ramen… but cold.

That was in October. Couldn’t believe how hot it was. Felt like I was going insane until some Japanese people told me towards the end of the trip that it was an unseasonably hot October. The cherry blossoms were even having a second bloom at the Imperial Palace.

  22. yeah I like the art of it, but thats like a taste of soba noodles not actually a serving

love Japan but holy shit they can get fucking pretentious with things like this

remember going to a restaurant when I was living there and they served us like 15 courses of tiny little bites of food

    was still hungry after

… Wouldn’t it make way more sense to use a mold? Or are they insistent on adding extra labour just to make it cost more?
