ST. LOUIS—Tony’s, the Michelin-awarded fine-dining restaurant in Clayton, will close its doors permanently on Feb. 15.

“It is with a mixture of gratitude and a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Tony’s Restaurant on February 15, 2025. For more than seven decades, we have had the privilege of serving the St. Louis community, and we want to thank each of you for being part of our story,” the restaurant said Friday in a news release.

Tony’s opened in 1946 and stayed in Downtown St. Louis until 2021, when it relocated to a Centene-owned Clayton building. The move came two years after the death of longtime owner Vince Bommarito Sr., whose father founded the original Tony’s Spaghetti House.

“Our journey began as a small family business that ultimately grew into a St. Louis institution,” the release states. “We started with a dream of creating the finest Italian dining experience in the region, and with many of the Bommarito Family’s incredible vision and dedication, that dream became a reality… Through the years, Tony’s moved and evolved – from the spaghetti house on North Broadway to Market Street to our current location. Yet, our core values remained the same: offering unparalleled tableside service to every guest that walked through the front door.”

The release didn’t include a reason for the closure, but Vince’s son, James Bommarito told partners at The St. Louis Business Journal it was “just time to move on.”

“I’ve been doing this for a long while,” Bommarito wrote. “Have worked over 3,000 Friday and Saturday nights in a row. Ready for a different direction.”

The release, a letter addressed to “valued friends, guests, and the St. Louis community,” states, “As we prepare to say farewell, we take comfort in knowing that Tony’s legacy will live on with the countless special moments that we have shared with the St. Louis community.”

The restaurant is still accepting reservations, but is fully-booked for the final dinner service on Feb. 15.
