Roblox is arguably at a crossroads. As more and more people become increasingly aware of the influence of Roblox, it has been under more scrutiny than ever before. In addition to the classic shutdown rumors, lawsuits have also been swirling around the popular platform.
Even as hit games like Grow a Garden continue to dominate the platform and attract celebrity appearances, rumors persist about the game’s imminent shutdown. The latest rumor has been circulating on social media platforms, claiming that Roblox will cease operations on September 1.
Is Roblox Shutting Down On September 1?
Rumors Like This Fly Freely For Roblox
No, Roblox is not shutting down on September 1, 2025. Despite the widely circulated rumor on social media, there has been no official statement from the Roblox team confirmingthis is the case.
Here is the rumor in full: “After careful consideration, we have decided to permanently shut down our platform. This decision comes as a direct response to overwhelming popular demand, alongside growing concerns about safety and security. While this was no easy choice, we believe it is in the best interest of our community. We want to thank everyone who has been a part of this journey. Your voices have been heard, and your well-being remains our top priority. Effective September 1st, the platform will no longer be available.”
The diction of the statement alone is a tipoff that it’s not authentic. Furthermore, multiple rumors about Roblox’s closure are circulated constantly (ranging from authentic-looking to obviously fake), so this is par for the course for one of the world’s largest and most popular gaming platforms.
Roblox Could Be In For A World Of Legal Trouble
If The Lawsuits Are Successful
Given that there are multiple lawsuits in the works alleging that Roblox is not a safe environment for minors, there could be trouble brewing down the line. While it’s tough to imagine anything resulting in a shutdown anytime soon, Roblox could face fines or be ordered to make its platform safer for children, which could alter the course of the game.
The most prominent lawsuit comes from the Attorney General of Louisiana, Liz Murrill. They’ve filed a lawsuit in the 21st Judicial District of Louisiana, alleging that the game does not do enough to protect minors. Here’s what the AG had to say about the lawsuit: “Due to Roblox’s lack of safety protocols, it endangers the safety of the children of Louisiana.”
We’ll see if Roblox can overcome these legal battles and still emerge victorious, as several other attorneys have indicated that they will also be filing lawsuits against the platform. As the game continues to generate more revenue than ever, it may need to alter its business model drastically.
