It’s that time of year when it feels like every other person you know is in Europe. Almost every morning, a doomscroll brings a brag-reel of friends having kerbside dinners in Rome and sipping spritzes under a Venetian sunset, all before you’ve built the courage to get out of a warm bed.
But now’s your chance to join them – and one-up their experience by having a local guide unlock a deeper immersion in Italian food. We’ve teamed up with Intrepid to give one lucky reader (and a hungry travel buddy) the chance to get a taste of Italy on an eight-day small-group tour. There are two spots up for grabs, with accommodation and flights all sorted by Intrepid – valued at around $15,000.
The tour begins in Rome, where cobblestoned streets and hidden trattorias set the scene for your first bites. From there, you’ll head to the Emilia Romagna region, widely regarded as the country’s food bowl. You’ll spend a night in its capital Bologna – nicknamed La Grassa (The Fat) for its rich cuisine and famous production of cured meats, cheese and stuffed pastas. While there, you’ll take a shuttle bus to Modena to visit a Parmigiano-Reggiano dairy factory with towering rows of some 33,000 wheels of cheese. Finally, you’ll roll into Venice, where you’ll wander the ancient fish market, learn about local seafood traditions, and sample cicchetti from a string of restaurants in Dorsoduro.
