Trader Joe’s sold this cheese that I can no longer find in their store. It was perfectly semi-hard, a bit nutty, and creamy! I bought their gouda cheese as an alternative that kinda looked like the same texture/hardness but it’s too pungent of a moldy(?) flavor for me.

What’s the name of the type of cheese this is/would be a good alternative for me to look for in general supermarkets?

    According to their website it’s an “American original” style that takes influence from cheddar, German and swiss style cheeses.

    Made like a cheddar but with a mix of starter cultures that give it a distinctive delicious flavor. That’s how they crafted their first big hit Prairie Breeze.

    This creamery makes Prairie Breeze Cheddar, my fav cheese of all time, and I wonder if it’s the same cheese with a different label for TJs. PB can be found in cheese shops and specialty grocers usually.

    The post literally says “cheddar style curds pressed into a brick”

    Try Dubliner, Westminster Rustic Red, Vat 17.

  6. It’s basically a mix of swiss and cheddar. Its a bit soft and almost spongy. It’s not particularly sharp but it’s a nice cheese.

  7. I live about 20 minutes from this creamery. Awesome people and great cheese. Their 4 alarm cheddar is one of my favorites.

    It’s Milton Creamery out of Iowa;

    Looks like they still sell the Morning Harvest, I fully admit i’ve never tried that one.

    But i *ADORE* their Caramelized Onion Cheddar–it’s one of my favorite cheeses–along with the Tomato Garlic Cheddar!😉

    Pretty sure I see this brand often at Grocery Outlet, I’ll have to buy a few varieties next time I see them.

    Milton creamery used to age florys truckle, which is one of the best US produced clothbound cheddars I’ve tasted.

    Hmmm… I wonder if this is why Milton has been telling me this will be unavailable until fall?

    Have you tried Trader Joe’s Unexpected Cheddar? While I never had the one in your photo, the description sounds the same, and the Unexpected is currently available!

    It says it right on the packing. Cheese from farms run by families of little people
