Philadelphia’s dining scene is about to gain a new star. Borromini, the highly anticipated Italian concept from STARR Restaurants, officially opens its doors on Monday, August 25, at 1805 Walnut Street, overlooking Rittenhouse Square.

This 15,000-square-foot, two-story restaurant is the latest project from James Beard Award-winning restaurateur Stephen Starr, whose innovative approach to hospitality has shaped Philadelphia’s culinary identity for more than 30 years. Just steps from Starr’s beloved French bistro Parc, Borromini delivers a dining experience grounded in tradition while thoughtfully refreshed for today.

At the helm of the kitchen is Executive Chef Julian Baker, whose international career spans Michelin-starred restaurants and acclaimed Italian institutions. Collaborating with award-winning Chef Mark Ladner, Baker has crafted a menu that celebrates regional Italian cuisine with a refined, modern touch. Signature offerings include 100 Layer Lasagna, Spaghetti al Limone, Tortelloni di Ricotta, Carbonara, Branzino, Lamb Scottadito, and Bistecca alla Fiorentina.

To complement the menu, Borromini offers an extensive Italian wine list, an inventive cocktail program featuring highlights like the Pomodoro Martini, and one of Philadelphia’s largest Amaro collections. Desserts such as Limone di Amalfi sorbetto and traditional tiramisu provide the perfect finale.

Designed by Keith McNally, Ian McPheely, and Stokes Architecture & Design, the interiors blend Roman inspiration with a timeless elegance—vaulted ceilings, mosaic tilework, and rustic oak beams create an atmosphere both grand and inviting. The space also features outdoor seating overlooking Rittenhouse Square.

Borromini will be open for dinner Sunday–Wednesday from 5–10 p.m. and Thursday–Saturday from 5–11 p.m., with lunch and brunch service coming soon. Reservations are now available via OpenTable.
