I’m sorry that happened to you OP! I would’ve bought those up without a second thought! I love them both but especially that “gothic” looking one 😍

  2. Sallyfifth

The ducke are adorable, and the dark one is very elegant!

  3. fuuuuuckendoobs

Your piping work on the dark one is incredible!

  4. Remarkable_Plate8239

    OooOooooOoo. These are pretty cakes!!

  5. AcceptableBet2934

They are gorgeous and I bet they get a lot of enjoyment here 😊

  6. I don’t get the context. Where were you trying to sell them? They look very good. Now I want cake!

  7. holderofthebees

Customers missed out!! Keep being proud, these rule!

  8. Happy_in_the_midwest

I would have bought them! They look great

There’s nothing wrong with them. Black is a difficult color to sell. No one really ever likes to buy black or red because it taste so bad but the baby won the reason it didn’t sell is maybe you didn’t have somebody that needed a baby cake that’s also like a unique niche thing. I think your cakes are gorgeous. I would offer next time instead of the black cake maybe make it off white color maybe whatever color but I would use less bright colors cause a lot of of us will not buy them because of the flavor from the dye, that’s all I have to offer. It’s not a criticism against your cake. It’s gorgeous.

These are gorgeous, were they custom orders? If so, I would suggest getting a down payment first from people you don’t trust.

They look amazing. It’s like another commenter said: people didn’t want those exact cakes for some reason. Don’t take it personally and keep at it because you’re clearly good at this.

I would have been pissed if I saw these only cause I’m gluten free and couldn’t get them for me!! They’re lovely!

  13. sipsredpepper

Goth Adjacent chick here. I would have absolutely bought that left one. It’s beautiful.

  14. FloofingWithFloofers

Ok, the black buttercream my store has has a yellow/green tint and I hate it. And the black dye just makes it gray…I need to know how that black buttercream came to be please! It’s a very good black!

I also died inside when I have a cake that isn’t bought…I put my heart and soul into that lol!

  15. Hot_Highway3716

Awww this makes my heart hurt! I love the little ducks!

  16. I definitely would have bought either of these – they look beautiful and fun, so I’m betting the cakes themselves are tasty.

  17. chodsonwalker

I would have definitely brought the black one 🖤

  18. sorrowchan

They’re super cute! If it makes you feel better, my cake case is really slow moving and usually only the signature or basic desgins tend to sell. If anything what happens more often is people will order a custom cake based on cakes like these, so it’s not for nothing! But I get you deeply, it feels bad to throw away something you’re proud of 😭

  19. I’d buy the duck one if I could. My son would love it

  20. Emergency-Basis-1362

Do more black cakes for October, especially toward the end of the month 🖤

  21. InvaderRhi

Do you work at Whole Foods? We use the same exact gold boards for our cakes there! Great job on your cakes if you do, black is crazy hard to make with only those organic natural dyes we have

  22. thirdfemme

You were ONLY disappointed I couldn’t come in and but BOTH!!! Cuz ummm…I’m staving and I don’t need a reason for cake….

Plus the ducks are ADORBS!!!! I’d have trouble eating them—too cute!

  23. The one on the left looks like a super chocolaty one which I would totally eat with an ice cold glass of milk or some tea with milk.

  24. womp-the-womper

I would’ve bought the duck one immediately! When I was a cake decorator I noticed that which cakes would go or not was fairly random. Some of the cakes I, and the other decorator, were most proud of never sold.

I think black icing cakes are hard to sell because people don’t want to dye their mouth

  25. throwaway5864779

These are beautiful cakes! My only and I hope sincere suggestion is to work on centering your cakes on the board. It makes a difference in presentation. My first job was a cake decorator and now just for my kids bdays Ill take a store bought and dress it up. I did a similar duck theme for a baby shower. Yours is way cuter!! Great job! Keep up the great work!!

The cakes look great but if I’m going to unexpectedly buy a decorated cake I wouldn’t be tempted by either one. A decorated cake would tend to be served for something specific: dinner with extended family, a birthday, etc. Although cakes with back icing look great, the icing often doesn’t taste very nice and it stains everything.
The duck design on the smaller cake is mainly going to appeal as a baby shower/first birthday cake. Maybe try colours and designs that are going to attract a broader group of people.

  27. I would have definitely bought the dark one, assuming it’s chocolate fudge?

  28. OneTwoPandemonium

They’re beautiful! How do you color your black icing?

  29. Haunting_Beaut

Ohhh I hated when that happened. I made my regular sellers, sometimes a few wouldn’t sell. It probably wasn’t the right time for them to buy a cake! I bet that black one would sell during Halloween and the ducky cake would be awesome for a baby birthday.

  30. dupe-of-a-dupe

I hate when I make a cute cake and it goes unsold! I love those that you did!

  31. Excellent-Bid-4439

Abby Sciutto would adore that gothic masterpiece!

  32. thatgirlfrombaja

Put some green on the black one and sell it as a Wicked cake! I would absolutely swoop that for my Wicked-obsessed niece

  33. BubblyPhuck

Whhhhyyyyyy I would have bought that black one immediately

  34. Tiny_Woodpecker1785

Slap a bat or a pumpkin on the black one and it would be great for Halloween.
I love these they have so much heart ❤️
Keep going OP you have a quirky talent
