This is for anyone thinking about purchasing or have just purchased a Big Green Egg. The year was 2004 and, while the US was mired in pivotal conflicts with evil adversaries, at the home front the girl of my dreams had said yes and we had just bought our first house together. To christen the new house, I wanted to get a new grill, and my soon to be wife said something that has stuck with me all these years. She said, instead of getting another grill that will last a year or two, why don't you get something that will last a lifetime. With that forceful twist of the arm, I spent what was at that time an exorbitant amount of money for a newlywed couple and got a BGE. I have cooked on that grill at least once or twice a week for the past 21 years which is thousands of cooks, and it started to look a little worn out, so I bought all new hardware and now we have a grill that will last another 21 years, and I guess sometime after that, one of our kids will fix it up again for another 21 years.
In other words, if you're on the fence get off and buy one. You will use it for the rest of your life!

A few years ago I got a 2004 made Primo Kamodo grill, used a handful of times. Someone was selling it for $180 on Nextdoor app… No brainier. Since that weekend I’ve been using it every weekend (if we don’t travel somewhere). One of the best purchases I have ever made. These things last forever with proper care. It’s universal cooking equipment, you can use it as a smoker for low and slow and as a grill, it’s all about controlling the airflow.
For newbies – main rule: never use lighting fluid, get electric fire starter, chimney or Kamodo fire starters.
I stand behind this message. I bought mine about 8 years ago and use it all the time. Replaced gaskets and a few parts, but totally worth it due to the cost over 10ish years is less than a new gas grill every other year.
